I hav'nt snaped/broken a impact socket. I have snaped 5 t40, 4 t30 torx bits in 6 month! I would think the impact set would be stronger or else thay wouldnt make torx or flat head bits?
Impact sockets are softer and will not shatter, normal sockets used in an impact gun are a BIG NO! I have shouted at my apprentice for using them in the impact guns!!(used to be able to beat them in the good ole days!!....) If you have ever seen one go you wont do it again! (i was an apprentice too.........)
Normal torx/hex/spline/ribe sockets are ok, they usually break if they are too loose/not seated correctly(always give them a clout to make sure they are fully home)
a lot of it is down to the user as well.......Ive bust a few over the years, but the gimp(apprentice) has probably broken a complete set!! in less than a year..........Thank Fook for lifetime warranty!!
Got a set of impact Torx bits but they are in the larger sizes T40 up and only fit in a special 1/2" holder, but they are for gearbox plugs/specialist stuff as most of them are too big to fit in cramped spaces.
A lot of it is the quality of the tools as well, dont expect a £9.99 Aldi set to last very long- but if you only use them very rarely then they may be ok- I work in the trade and use them daily.
Our local parts supplier was selling the torx/hex/spline sets cheap a couple of years ago- sealey branded- and they are lifetime warranty- give them a broken one and they replace it within a couple of days (but T40s -i think- are void for some reason)
Didnt pay a lot for it, and it has lasted well, but the bits dont look as good as my snap on set do for the same amount of use- but then they were much more expensive.
You pays your money you takes your choice.
