It was about S6 Avus wheels being 17'' and 8'' wide. That was what special about it but onfortunately mk.2... Would it accept mk.1 center caps to make it look better/different?
For a while I ran the S6(2000/2001) Avus MkII wheels. I tried the older caps. Would not fit. The S6 MkII Avus wheels are 17X8 ET35, and came from the factory with 255X35/17 running Contis, (at least in the states). I ran these on my coupe, with the stock tires, with no rubbing problems.

They can have my car when they pry my cold dead fingers from the steering wheel.
That Mk2 Avus wheel has perfect dimensions then at 17x8 on ET35 for the S2 - just a pity its not as pretty as the Mk1 Avus style - well thats down to personal taste of course in the subjective world of alloys.
I somewhat agree that 18" is too much for the S2 - unless you have monster brakes to fill them - but I do like the 18" Mk1 appearance on the S2 - pity there is all the faffing about with spacers and such to correct the offset - makes it a real pain for someone like me running with a stud conversion to swap wheels for winter time for example.
FOr now I will have to stick with the welterweight RS6 replicas on 18x8 at ET35 - they are done to death by every other VAG owner it seems but do seem to suit an S2 with dark paint and give it a sportier stance - the car looks a bit weedy on stock Avus wheels and 205 rubber with those huge 55 profile sidewalls.

Below are 2 examples with the Mk I S2 centre caps on MkII 17" Avus - they are probably both S4's with spacers rather than S6's but you would expect just the offset to be different ..
With the Mk I caps its hard to pick the difference from proper Mk I's. .. in 17" they suit the S2 perfectly really ..

I'll agree to disagree with that I'm afraid... to me, mk.1s are easily distinguishable from mk.2s.
The S6 wheels you mention above are a good find, I dislike spacers intently, on a car of the weight and performance of the S2, it's just asking for trouble. 8J et35 (or are the 7.5J?)

personally i think winding out another couple of points would be better, say ET32-ET30 - they sit much fuller in the arch and look great. Makes the car look a bit odd in my eyes when they are tucked underneath as much as they are. I have that prob with the Oz's i have, too inboard for my liking, look a bit lost in there
I'd have said that the OZs sit about right while not fouling the arches, sure you could go 3-5mm though for sure, ET30 is going to be more common than ET32 though. You want to see mine on the OE Avus if you want to laugh at 'inboardness' Someone like Team Dynamics might make up a set of Pro Race alloys to a specified offset, the PR3s are rather nice
