No Denying good power from a cossie lump especially on a 3071. The earlier onset of power will be more to do with the camshaft grind than anything else looking at the difference in the two setups and their respective power curves, as there shouldn't be so much between the two in spool up if anything the 3076 looks real late.

To put things a little into perspective though Andy Waite's white MK1 golf in it's earlier days with a ported small port 1.8t head, homemade big plenumb intake manifold,3071 on an atp cast log manifold, 8:1 compression and a set of off the shelf pipercross cams pulled 504hp at 1.9bar of boost. So to only make an extra 18 or so hp at an extra .8bar of boost goes to show how much more advanced the modern day VAG engines are. Likewise the fact that I'm making 528hp on the same turbo that matey made 480hp goes to show how good an I5 can be. Even with his new 3071 he's spooling slightly later than I am on the 3076 which I would put down to the extra .2ltr we have

Do you believe the figures from the MK1 though, old figures that is, DD seem quite accurate and dyno figures are not in car figures

500hp on a 3071 is pushing it, especially with less than 2 bar.

There are tons of YB's out there with 550+hp on a 3076.

The quarter mile times vs weight without nitrous backed up the 500mark on the white mk1. So I'd like to think that the figures were pretty on the ball.

As for 550+ figures from a GT30R on 98/99octane I'm still dubious as I personally think it is way of it's flow island by that point and can't physically shift enough air through the compressor to support it. I know different tuners have different opinions where some reckon the 30r is a 500-525hp turbo others 525-550hp and some 550-575hp. I'll see what I can squeeze out of it over the winter period but at the moment the way the thing is screaming it's head of I don't think it wants to go much more than 550.

I guess thats a fair point, I know a LOT of people using that turbo in all types and sizes and they are no where near 500hp, similar boost in some cases and fully thought out engine builds.

Maybe 500+ was a slight exageration, I can think of plenty over 500hp, not so many with over 550 but as you say different tuners claim different outputs from that turbo, Mark obviously being one of them.

Mark seems to of cracked onto something that many haven't quite got a understanding of, I find it very unlikely his figures are fudged in any way but I guess he is one of very few who dares push these turbochargers that hard, I don't know if its worth doing, it has to limit the life of them drastically which is no good for a road engine.
