You will also need seats, harness's and maybe even a fuel cell then the Paint to make your coupe look the park
some where around 3.5k depending on what seats you buy and what fuel cell and pump set up.Chef -
Welding in your own, if you trust your self to think of all the issues that occur rather than letting so one that does it for a living do it. I think about 800-900 ishChefComment

Look at pembo's crash, that bolt in cage def did its job, can understand wanting to do a belt n braces job on a cage tho, I've got a bolt in which was bout £300 but I modified the bases and made better platforms to tie the floor and the sills in, ferrari 360 challenge cars have a bolt in OMP cage which I've seen do a very good job of protecting the driver,
Always worth remembering that for safety cages, bodywork etc are designed to compress to take the shock of the impact out before it gets to the driver, if you hit a solid wall and stop dead, your body stops where is it is and your insides carry on and you die anyway, its a fine balance!

well i'd be happy to weld it in, I'm sure i'd take more time and care over it than anyone else
Bolt in cages are pointless IMHO, since you have to weld in the pick-ups for them anyway, its not like you can return the car to standard very easily anyway, its just a cheaper / weaker way of doing it.Panthero Coupé quattro 20vt

The MSA requirements for cage type will alter for specific series. Where bolt in cages are used, this tends to be more at clubman level. Weld in cage regulations now require a 360 degree weld which may necessitate cutting holes in the roof to access the shielded parts of the bars. ISTR there are also specific requirements to the weld finish, eg not ground down weld etc, but you'd have to check the book.
I'm sure you've researched the MSA Blue Book of regulations, this will give you the specific requirements for the events you plan to use the car in, and will enable you to focus the build to comply with your, and the events specific needs.
Whichever way you choose, a cage will markedly increase rigidity.

If you want to do your own weld in then its possible to do it for £500 but that means you doing all the work including all the tube notching which ends up taking a long long time.
Cages bought from proper companies like custom cages are 1500-2000 fitted. I would expect full 360 degree welds whether the blue book wanted them or not!Comment

When i got quotes for the S2
custom cages wanted £2500 + vat
Protection and performance £2800 + vat
These were all with out paint

food for thought. I wouldn't want to get too much into the fabrication side of things. Will have to talk to some specialists when/if the time comes.

Yep, Sorry Hamish, I was thinking of a 'self fabricated' cage... A supplier cage, as you say, should (will) have 360deg welds.85 WR Urquattro, 85 20vT International liveried RallyRep
