Discovered my car had the wrong number plates on it!!!!!

So two weeks ago I replaced my horrible little Seat Ibiza with a Polo FSI. As you might expect it is difficult to remember the exact registration on it - and in this case I couldn't remember if it was an '03' or a '53'. Even when I sorted the insurance I couldn't remember but was fairly sure it was a 53 - and obviously when I called my insurer to change car and quoted the registration I thought it was, they found the correct car. Then t'other day I looked out my window and saw 03 and thought "huh, I could swear it was a 53", and then carried on about my day....

On Friday evening I was sorting out my parking permit and so had a photocopy of my insurance doc in front of me and read that it said it was a 53 reg. Double checked the plates and front & back, both said 03. I haven't got my V5C back yet so I checked the MOT certificate and called the DVLA. All the documents I do have say 53 and there is no record of any car with my registration but as an 03. DVLA told me it was probably the dealer so I took a closer look at the plates and it had their logo on the bottom - DYL Motor Group of Halifax. The point of this thread being that they are a bunch of slimey crooks - like most car dealers I have dealt with in the past, no offence to anyone here who is a car salesman.

So late on Friday evening I called the dealer, luckily someone was still on reception at a time when most people would have got home already, and told them what happened. I was told the message would be left on the desk of the salesman who dealt with me and he'd call me Saturday morning. I finally gave up waiting by about 1pm so I gave them another call, "Oh yeah the new plates are right here Mr. Hanley..." WELL THANKS FOR NOT F***ING TELLING ME!

About 15 minutes passed before anyone turned up at the reception desk to ask if was being seen to when I arrived at the dealership. I said the plates I could see on the desk were mine and so this salesman said "you're fitting them yourself are you?" I wouldn't have minded that but I don't own a drill and these plates had no holes in them.... This guy that spoke to me for some reason needed to find the same stench off coffee and cigarettes who sold me the car just to get the plates on, ANYONE would do!!!

Anyway I now have to correct number plates on the car but left without getting a formal or official apology for THEIR mistake which could have got me into a lot of trouble had I not noticed, and was made to feel like I was inconveniencing them for getting them to put the right ones on!

Anyway, is there anywhere I register my dissatisfaction with them that anyone knows of? I won't bother writing a stiff letter to them just to get f***ing apology, I would much prefer to let people know that they don't know the difference between a '0' and a '5' and so how can you trust them to buy a car from them? But then, who trusts any car dealer or salesman

they sound like a bunch of morons, although at least if you got caught speeding before the mistake was rectified, you won't be held responsible

        In a Polo?

Seriously though, how did it come to have the wrong plates on it? I guess they replaced the plates because there was a different dealer's name on them, bit weird if you ask me..

actually this just reminded me of another story when I used to work for halfords when I was younger

One of the less eduated members of staff shall I say, was asked to make a set of number plates. He made and fitted them, customer paid and left the store

about 2 weeks later he came back holding the numbers plates and asked "whats wrong with these"

Both letters Js where the wrong way round!!

I remember when i was younger my mum bought a brand new Peugeot 106 and the dealer managed to get the plates mixed up between two cars before fitting them. My mums plate was supposed to be M722 ### and it arrived with M772 ### on the car. It was a couple of months before we realised, and apparently there was another 106 (same spec, different colour) with the opposite scenario, and they hadnt noticed. So the dealer had to call them up and inform them to bring the car in to swap the plates.
Admittedly they were very apologetic, but these things simply should happen and they could land an innocent motorist a fine, or even invalidate insurance???

Exactly what I was thinking. If something happened during that first week I bet my insurer would find a way to say my insurance was invalid, even though it was just a matter of a typing error by some troglodyte employee of the dealership

Now the front number plate has fallen off on one side. And the moron who put it on has destroyed the thread/hole so the sticky strip I secured it with - luckily I was near a halfords when it fell off - will have to hold it there from now on... Absolute tards
