Ofcourse, unlimited budgets and recourses! What is affordable for us now was high tech those days such as ceramic ball bearing turbochargers, TiAL turbine rotors, ...
And they were experimenting with alloys that are toxic/hazardous. They tried beryllium alloy for pistons.
And still, fatique over lifetime wasn't an issue. one-lap-wonders is what they needed to reach first place on the grid.
We inherited a lot of technology for our every day road cars such as coatings and material physical properties.Comment

Just watched these videos very interesting and things have defiantly change I can't see an f1 mechanic taking a file to a brake caliper because it was rubbing on the wheel rim well not in public anywaynever set your expectations to high that way you are never disapointedComment

my Dad was ex-DEC our house had a vax/vms and alpha pc's while every other kid had a commodore or zx.
yep, the 80's in flim does seem like ancient times but the ease of watching the documentary is something you just don't get today. Did anyone else notice we didn't get an ad-break and one of those f88king annoying bloody re-caps of what you just watched after it
broadcasters must think we all have a fishbowl memory these days.
In some ways, technology these days is fantastic, on the other hand success through addressing repeated failures and genuine collaboration with humans was quite refreshing to watch. For me, motorsport was made in the 80's and its never quite been the same since, rally or F1

Carving wooden patterns by hand for casting the engine blocks as CAD would have been too expensive, I guess it would be the other way round now..Comment

Jesus!!
These confirmed my thoughts that...you should have enough time and money to test something in real life...not in virtual world.
Superb!
For British guys....is something, from motorsport, you are not 100000000% involved in it?
