    530d fuel pump failure

Just a bit of info on my 530d sport, as some of you may know some owners of these cars. I noticed a humming noise from the front passenger footwell, and I though hey up whats this I've never heard that before, so before I could investigate any further the car chucked the towel in just round the corner from my home, got the car back and started messing around, the car turned over with ease just wouldn't start. Turns out that the fuel pump had had enough. Phoned the stealers and £240 plus the dreaded so contacted Euro for the same original Pierburg pump it was £140 + the dreaded, great I'll have it. 20mins later the cars now running again, quite simple to do, pumps located behind front passenger wheel under the plastic splash guard, 1 clamp, 1 plug and two jubilee clips and your done.

I had an E60 530d, if your going to buy one make sure the oil breather filter at the left back end of the engine has been changed recently if not do it!! If it gets blocked say good bye to the turbo!!!! Put me off my bmw after that happened.

I'd only be able to stretch to a ropey e39 unfortunately, but have heard about the turbos failing. Is this what causes it on them too?

Its either that filter £25 from BMW and take 30 minutes to change!! or the butterflies in the plastic inlet manifold drop off. They did improve things on the E60 but still not perfect.

If you change the breather filter, do buy a newer design wortex filter(actually it's a oil separator), it's plug and play. BMW OEM part number for the wortex is: 11127799366

            Pic of old vs new.

I've owned my E39 now over 5yrs and this is the only problem I've had since buying it, and it was sorted in a matter of moments. My car has full SH it's had the crank case oil breather pipe done which is the root cause of the turbo to fail. It's an excellent all round car, big, comfy and safe,no good in the winter without winter tyres though it returns 32mpg round the doors and 47 on a run and top 150mph,plus you can pick up a good one for less than 5K, so what more do you need? well an S car also..
