Recommend me an OBD2 interface

yeah I've set the COM port in the devide manager and tried it on ports 1, 2 & 4 and set the corresponding COM port in the options screen in VAGcom and no joy

I've got another USB interface with an LED on it, that lights up when I plug it into the OBD port on the car, would that work if the fuse was blown?

i've always found the driver for the usb cable being fussy everytime i put it on a new laptop.Never had any issues apart from that.

That confirms the OBD port is giving 12v to the interface.

Well tried like **** to get this working with my desktop PC set up in the garage - did it work? did it ****.

I also tried plugging the OBD>serial cable straight into the PC and no luck, I have checked the diagnostic fuse which is fine. I have also tried the latest drivers from FTDI for the serial emulator and nothing works. VAGcom will not detect the interface.

So I am almost certain that the OBD>serial cable does not work.

So back to the drawing board and the original question - can anyone point me to a specific interface cable that they own and use that they know works with VAGcom?
This is getting on my ****ing t1ts now I just need to read some fault codes

Ive been using an Alphabid ebay cable for a 2-3 years now, works fine. Had trouble at first getting it to work on vista but ive sussed all that now.

What version of vagcom are you using?

Thats a point don't the newer versions have trouble with non ross-tech interfaces?
