i bought an old toshiba off ebay for £17 and never looked back the laptop im on at the moment was bought intially for mapping an ecu but my serial to com adapter worked a handful of times and never again, the old toshiba never ever has a problem, windows 98 ftw

Success at last!

Bought one of these from ECUfix.com in the UK - £20.
It works - yay! Now I need to get my head into Vagcom, looks like theres a lot to learn

i got one of the cheapy cables off ebay with a 2+2 adaptor. Works with both my 80 and b5 passat.

I used the USB drivers from here -> http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm

This makes your computer think the usb connection is a com port, then through device manager you can select it to be COM1, that then works within VCDS
