PRJ like I have stated I have reported what I have seen when working on the car. At first the relay did NOT energize when cranking - sorry but it just didn't. Then when checking again when just in case I was wrong or not "seeing" correctly it does energize. What would you have me do, tell you what I think you want to hear or what I actually see?
I don't think I deserve your personal insults either, I thought this was an Audi forum not a BMW or VW forum.
It hasn't been my intention to break the car all along, trust with a family and full time job there is much more I could be doing with my time than chasing around the country for parts and sitting on forums! Also the car is getting scrapped NOT broken, if I haven't the time and inclination to fix it I certainly don't have it to break it!
I piled a fortune into my RS2 only for Corey to take the pi** and leave me with a worse car than when I started. I am not going down the same road financially with this car.
As I say, apologies to all if you feel I have mislead or wasted your time.
You might leave the S2 fold every so often - but you'll always come back!

Si, if it's not your primary car then don't get rid of it. Put a bit more patience into sorting it out, as Paul said you're nearly there with it... usually the hard pard is actually determining what isn't wrong and then you end up with a simple solution after days of frustration. Earler you were set on fixing it, I would not let someone elses blunt comment on a internet forum push your mindset to selling the car to a breaker!

I can empathise with your frustration with getting burned - it took me 2 years with an engine-less car in storage to finally get the heart to put it on the road. Even then it cost me about another £500 in 'other' parts to get it all working right, but once it did I had a year of fun and despite the frustration I learned LOADS.

Now I've sold it on and got the motivation to put a finger to the Corey incident and have a decent family RS2 with a few tweaks - what I wanted all along - this time I'm using trustworthy sources (and doing alot of the work myself). It's not my primary car so I can afford a bit of down time, but it's very rewarding to get the car sorted my way and not let some muppet take my enthusiasm.

All you need is to get it on the road and take it for a good drive, it'll remind you why we persevere. Until something else goes wrong

Then you must have money to burn if your going to scrap a car over a simple fault.

Im pretty much a newbie on here si, and sympathise, from the outside reading this thread, a couple of comments were a bit unnecessary, but at least store the car and use it as a hobby. Dont let another good car die. Ps, whats the scrap value?:mischeif:

That's very informative. But you did not say this before, just now.
I am not the only one confused.

The only reason for my attitude is, I don't see why you would scrap a perfectly good car over a such fault.
Maybe it seems daunting to you, but it makes it sound like you don't give a damn about the car to others, including myself. That's what I get worked up on.
Saying this on a car enthusiast forum is like a slap in the face.

You probably don't even need a new hall sensor, if all that's messed up is the wiring around it.
I'd re-solder and fix the wiring for free, if it would mean not scrapping the car, sadly I am not in a position to do so.

I don't understand the extremity you are going to - if you don't want the car, sell it to someone who will fix it, why scrap it?
Sorry if I am being too harsh. I just don't understand your way of thinking. Why not let it sit for a week or two and get back to it when you are in a better mood?

And uhm, what's the scrap value? More than enough people will surely give you that amount (and surely more) in cash...

Thats exactly my point prj, someone who knows less than you needed help, but ended up with more grief than he needed, so now is looking to be rid of what could be one of the best distractions in his life. Its obvious you know the ins and outs of these cars, and to a great amount a valuable asset to this forum, but the way you come over just insults people. I dont mean any offence, its just this forum is well known for being open, helpful, and mostly polite. Lets try to keep all these excellent cars going by sharing and helping please chaps, im sure ill need all of you t some point! Best wishes.

Don't get too personal, I only started these remarks after he said he was scrapping it, if changing parts without diagnosing won't help it.
Pay attention to the original thread.

Hinting at the fact that it's somehow my fault someone is scrapping their car is just as wrong as scrapping said car. And no, I don't feel ashamed for poking someone who says he's about to scrap his perfectly good S2 because he does not want to devote time to fixing it. Obviously everyone is free to do what one wants with their property, but it doesn't mean I have to agree with it.

That said, I hope OP sleeps over it, realizes how much work he has put in, and that he will probably regret getting rid of the old girl.

In general, for those who try to help UrS people with issues, it is frustrating when the information regarding the problem and its symptoms is incomplete or changes from day to day. Those who are trying to help need full disclosure of all the symptoms/codes, etc. from the get-go, otherwise they (we) end up wasting a lot of time sending the OP down a path based on the limited information that is provided. Many times "when new *sh*t has come to light" the whole path to the solution changes.

Just like the BIG Lebowski (not "The Dude") we sometimes get a bit frustrated and lash out. (Sorry) ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gbIv7W7rhx4 )

Sorry you thought I was being personal, and dont know where I hinted anything was your fault, I am, in fact, on your side. A like-minded individual who will try to help people of a similar nature where necessary. And yes, I did read the original thread. Please have a ittle patience for those who are not as knowledgeable as yourself. Would be a shame for this forum to go the way of others for treating newbies as idiots.

Seriously tho, lets be nice eh?

@Simon - hope you have stepped back from the brink of giving up... what is the latest ?

If it helps you... I am looking at a UK trip later this month or early July to map/tweak a few cars - so depending on geography and luck - I could get a look at the patient as I'll have a fair amount of equipment with me. If I cannot root cause it in an couple hours - then I give up !!!

Send me a PM if that is an interesting option for you - I am not looking to charge you £100 per hour either - let me see how timings work out on the trip and whether I can get to you somehow.
