Thanks Jamo, my question was more what items are being replaced. I am thinking belt, tensioner and crank bolt.
You might leave the S2 fold every so often - but you'll always come back!

Most people also do the water pump at the same time. Some people also do the front crank seal (proper tools needed). For the tensioner, you just need the pulley ("relay roller"), not the complete assembly. Some people replace the lower crank pulley because abuse by mechanics with impact wrenches cracks the "key".

Here is some general timing belt info (with PNs_ that should give you some hints:

The diy lock tools? If so yes

I don't know if the factory aby tool will do a 3b though.

All you need to do is stop it turning.

Though you should get a bit for next to nothing if you have any stores near you.

The 3B uses the 2084 locking tool.

I made this one for my KV engine saturday, I believe it will work for most 5 pots except, AAN, ABY and ADU? Anyway it worked perfectly for my engine.

                        sure,

bolt to bolt (center) 220 mm.
round part outer diameter 60 mm.
                        pipe 115 mm.
                        bolt M10x140

mine could have been better looking if I had the right diameter pipe to fit in the pulley, had to beef up one side of it now.

When you say yours couldv'e been better do you mean the diameter of the pipe? Did you use 60mm or did you used smaller, hense you had to "beef it up"?

Also what is the depth of the pipe please?

                            Cheers

Can't understand all the mucking about.

You can buy the proper tools from Audi or directly from the manufacturer Matra (which I did).

They are REQUIRED by an EU Directive to make available to independents any tools essential for maintaining their vehicles.

Unfortunately not all of us can afford to buy the proper tool. I can pretty much make one for free if I have all the dimensions so why waste money in my opinion.
