    My S2

Right im in 2 minds what to do with it.

I hate the seats that are in it and i also hate the stiff suspension.

Do i change the seats for some good old fashioned comfortable cloth seats and change the suspension to some nice standard non bumpy stuff or do i just sell the car and buy a standard clean car which then means i dont have to deal with the body work issues that mine has.

I love how nippy it is and i like the looks of the s2 but i dont actually like driving it as it is.

Normally i would just sell it and buy something else but there is something about an s2 i like compared to other cars ive owned and sold without a thought but something tells me to stick with an s2 at the moment

    Cheers

What suspension has it got? And what seats? I've got a set of stock springs here going spare. Also have some cloth seats from an avant.

Yeah thats the one. I dont know what suspension it has except for whats in the paper work which says its got Koni front and rear dampers and H&R springs. Ive also put them silly 18inch wheels on it with skinny tyres which doesnt help.

The seats i was told are RS2 front seats which look nice but never have been a fan of leather

Its just leather in general. Dont find them comfy at all plus they hold the heat when the sun is shining and horrible getting into hot seats but i know its not hot everyday, just guess im fussy

                  As he says.

Fit the stock springs and see how it rides for you.

Going down to 17in wheels will probably take off a lot of the harshness.

You'll get a good return on those RS2 front seats, I love mine, big improvement over the stock seats... perhaps you could try and swap them for the 1/2 leather RS2's or dare I say it full cloth recaro's if you can find them? Or I'm sure there's many that would bite your arm off to swap for some S2 fabric seats.

Suspension... if it's an Avant, there's a few good combinations - I personally have stock RS2 springs with Koni's and the ride is fine for me and the family. It sits a little higher than I'd like but that is a comprimise I'm willing to make for the comfort.

On my old avant I had stock RS2 shocks with S2 H&R springs, it looks awesome - sits at the perfect height - but it was alot firmer over the bumps than my RS2 is now. It's tempting for the look, I have a pic of both cars next to each other and everyone asks why the 'one on the right' looks that bit meaner... both on 17s btw.

Think i will buy a set of stock springs and a set of 16s and go from there. As for the seats, wouldnt bother me what they are as long as they are cloth. Thanks

S2 Avants have a great standard suspension set up, very refined and comfortable. Get rid of the H&R's and 18" rims and the car will be transformed. I'm suprised you don't like the seats but each to their own, as has been mentioned the RS2 Recaro's are worth a fair bit and you can pick up a standard cloth set up for peanuts. The money from the Recaros could go along way to sorting the body.

If it's running well, and it sounds like it is, then I'd keep it as you'll never get a Nothelle S2 for that money again. If you buy a standard car you'll soon want the power the Nothelle has which will obviously mean hassle and expense.

8 x 17" inch rims, (say a second hand set of S4 B5 rims would be a good compromise on appearance and money). Factory rims are better than new chav rims.

There are nice aftermarket rims, but take your time picking.

The 17" rims should have 225/45/17 tyres.

Perfect performance btw - i.e. between comfort and grip.

16" are too small and narrow - 205. 18" look great, but lack comfort and can be damaged more easily.

Read through the forum and you'll the above is a good pointer.

                            Kind regards.

Agreed with above... 18" can be too harsh combined with stiffer springs etc to some tastes. Step down to good Audi 7J rims as suggested and see how it fairs... the next step would be to go for stock S2 or RS2 springs to soften things up further.
