Im gonna stick up for the 2.8cq, its by no means a fast car but wind it up and it will sit there all day no probs. Its a lazy motor and doesn't necassary thrive on revs, it wont win any traffic light grand prix's but thats not what its about.

I've used mine as a daily for many years (have hads lots of other toys in between), bought it on low miles and its now one around 140,000, of which the majority have been fairly reliable. Has had quite a hard life as my workhorse, done several track days & sat at 140mph on more occasions than i can remember. If you think its the slowest car ever, i think yours must def have a few probs.

yeah I like the v6s,I have had 4 over the last couple of years(still got a 2.8cq mothballed).Have to say my favourite was a 2.6 auto avant, as said by someone above the kickdown is addictive.

Pretty good on fuel on a run (around town forget it)

          +2

Slow off the line and a bit lethargic unless you give it some welly, but mid range is a hoot
For what this cost me so far I could have bought an S2

            Strong and good engine(and i have 2.6 not 2.8).
When i say strong i do not compare it with 2.2t.
You should ceck yours something is not ok with it.
I always love to drive my wifes c4 v6(it sounds like an electric motor but it feels nice)

think i need to get the codes read then. although it wasn't much slower than my mates remapped mk4 golf gti it just feels like it takes forever between gear changes. when rev'd up on the spot the rev counter needle wizz's round but when in gear i feel ive got enough time to read a book before the next gear comes.... the code reader shall bring some results, i'll let you all know whats up with it soon oh and its not mine fortunately ive just been giving the task of fixing it lol

Will try to record some full throttle runs. But my wife does not let me rev it.She says:you have your cars, rev them Will say mine is broken and tahe hers. She will say:"again?"That is why i say it is a good engine. You just drive it.No boost leaks,no coil conversions,no 3 bar map needed etc

well i recently aquired a 90q with a 2.8l v6 and im trying to do research and learn up on it. so far ive found... that there isnt much out there it seems for it. can any one help me out as to engine code, tips and tricks for it * shrug*, any thing will help really. seems 034 might make a chip...

Have a read through this thread and see what they think about the v6 across the water.

Not sure which engine is the AFC ?

                    this is an interesting point:

"also make sure she sounds quiet. no lifter noise, no rattles, and you have good working knock sensors. the ecu's on these engines LOVE to pull timing and are a bit too eager at it. any kind of minor rattling or lifter tick and they will pull the timing into the regular timing map and kill the performance of the engine. this is probably why alot of people feel these engines are slugs. at 10.5:1 compression audi maybe was alittle bit too conservative with the knock sensor usage and people filling these cars with regular and crappy dino oil rattling lifters makes these engines slow"

Just a thought, you sound like you are having the same problem i was having with my 2.3E, different engine i know, and i'm not really familliar with your engine, but mine was the same. give it a bit of welly and it was just so guttless.
The way things happened with mine i'm not sure what cured it, but i change the fuel filter, thermostat, MTFS, and coolant sensor all at the one time....
What a difference now, as responsive as it should be...
Does your car seem to take an age to heat up.. going by the water temp gauge?

I had this engine in a quattro Saloon. No, in comparison to some 1.8T A4s I've had since, it's not that quick , very refined tho' (I happen to like that! ). Mine was VERY quiet.
I remember reading a couple of years ago on one or two of the US sites that they were doing loads of work on throttle bodies etc etc to live the V6 up.
It would have been Audiworld or Audizine, as I rarely look at any other sites. I moved on a bit so never followed it up but the airflow inprovements that were happening seemed good. IIRC they all came with Hitachi electronics in the UK/Europe and this severeli limits tuning although there are noew upgrades that can be performed... at a price!

That sounds like the Mance/VAP stuff, it was a work of art. You can still find the threads, and the links somewhere to the intake manifold workshop, a lot of the pictures are gone from the forum though.

                                I'm sorry !

If it's any consolation, I'm in a worse position than you, more cars, e.g. this weekend refit a new heater matrix into a B4 Cabrio, and help Mark to stick the engine, and the rest, back into an Avant.

This whole forum messes us all up.

                                Kind regards.
