Need a new VAG Com lead

My VAG Com lead has stopped working, so I need another. Anyone recommend me one that they've tried and that works, please?

That looks identical to the one I paid £7 for from eBay and works fine. For the price of the cheap copies you may as well buy a few a chuck them when they stop working.

WHo did you buy it off Steve? Just want to get one that's known to work, rather than take a punt on one of the many that are on there. It's more than likely that they're all the same but can't hurt to take a tried and tested route.

It's the shareware version that came with the lead. I think I connected it to the black plug the wrong way around, as it was dark

Got an eb@y special (blue one) from the cheapest UK seller. All works but unlike my previous 908 lead, this uses VCDS Lite shareware and so a lot of the functions are disabled. You can get a licence for $99 from Ross Tech but I'll pass for the moment...

I did and they didn't work. I tried 3 difffernt ebay specials. none of them worked. So spent twice as much as just buying a known good one the first time! The one i suggested is proven and warrantied, ebay is a gamble. you pays your money you takes your choice.

                    Hi there,

Ive purchased one off ebay. £50.00gbp. works with VAG 10.6 good lead works well, really stable.

prior had a vag106 lead (10.6), off a friend to use, it cost him the same sort of money

This lead is known as the vcds1103

Pricey, but what you pay for is what you get!

for the S2 you will need a obd2-1 connector plug, this costs a few quid off ebay.

the cheap blue leads off ebay only work with vcds lite. its a shame they dont mention this anywhere.

                    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1306002881...84.m1497.l2649

seller posted mine within 2days of payment.

Whatever you do, if you buy one of these leads DO NOT update to latest software, this will make the lead inoperable!

Cheers for that; looks like my old 908 lead, which I fried the other day

WIll keep an eye out and see what pops up for sure

sorry I just read about connecting to the wrong plug, im assuming this was the obd1 plug, you got the wrong way round?

When I done that it blew the resistor in the lead, you could actually see a crack on the resistor, as these leads arent genuine, there is a design flaw, where the resistor is a heat sink, but isnt actually attached to anything metallic, meaning even if it is used for long periods of time it can go wrong.

This was a simple fix, replacement resistor from maplins cut the old one off, re-soldier the new one on, and it was working again.

Im assuming these leads are the same/ very similar internals.. and assuming you have the same problem/you done the same as i did with the obd 1 connector!

Yeah, the black plug on the 2x2 connector. I've had a look for signs that it's kaput but can't see where it might have gone wrong. The 2x2 still works, as I've used it with the 409.1 cable that I got off eb@y for <£8 delivered.

lol prj, the site you have recommended sells the 409.1 cable cheapest $8.25 so if you wanted a bullsh!t lead your right you would save yourself around £4.00 rrp ebay prices. all the other vag leads are hundreds of dollars, and obviously the wait for the ship time etc, im not too sure it is a rip off, nor are the some 60 odd customers who have bought the lead same as me!

rusty, it could well be the same problem in that case i had with the vag106 lead? just up to you how far you want to go with it, resistor costs £1.50 and depends how handy you are with a soldering machine i guess
