your car it is not 20 years old ,but anyway i am sure you will pay not more than 300€ for the insurance...that only covers the damage the third persons + travel assistance and that´s enough for me .

in the coupe... i have a glass insurance too in the 120€...that only will cover glass damage to 300€ as much.

and if you had registered your RS2 in my town you will pay i think 107€/year

i am paying th same for my S2 and for mu 80 competition... 107€/car

In Italy can you declare it off the road and not have to tax it?
If so, park it up for 4 years and then pay the cheaper tax?

What are the costs in this case?
Then your "friend" will be insured to drive the car, not you...
Remember, in the UK it is the person insured, not the car - although the car is linked to the person.

For UK MOT you can keep Km/h dials and also LHD headlights as long as the beam pattern fulfils the criteria at test time. (even electrical tape can do this).

so, you are taxed and insured for less than 3,000 EUR legitimately...

I can't see you doing it for less than 2,000 in the UK - along with other associated costs and general hassle - travel to MOT, road tax, insurance, etc. and even if you do this you may well not be eble to claim if something happens... Is it really worth it?

I thought utah was bad. It is 88 dollars a year plus a safety and emissions test which is another 40-50. So I register my cars in oregon where it is 35 dollars for 2 years of registration and I don't even have to go there to get the new registration it is all done by mail and there are no inspections required.

Huge italian community here in Belgium that could maybe help you. 450 Eur annual road tax and insurance premiums was pretty low as car was over 15 years of age. I was paying something like 100 Eur per month.
Mandatory annual technical control to deal with as well.

                It would be too easy.....

In a way you can do it..... if you accept the risk of changing rules on the way which it's not so uncommon here....

You can "scrap" your car then give back your paper and plates.
Then wait for the 20 years to expire
Then apply for new plates and registration for a collactable and historic vehicle...

But if, they changes somehow the procedure (like if it's been scrapped it's gone forever) along the remaining 4 years then you're....:corey:

                You're facing:

                No export
                No new registration
                You're car it's a bunch of metal

If you just keep the car in your garage sitting with plates on.....

You GOT to pay, simply because the taxation in italy for cars it's NOT a roadtax but a property tax (litterally) so you pay because you own the car not because you're using it..... welcome to motorists hell folks!

About Spain and the 20 years, here it's the same once you got a 20 years old car you don't pay taxes anymore just insurance.

IN SPAIN YOU HAVE TO PAY TAXES...it does not mind if the car has 20 o 50 years...you have to pay,at least in my region ,that is one of the most rich and expensives in the country

this is why i still have to pay 107€/year

All the chat aside, I know how to actually do this, but this involves basically setting someone other than yourself as an owner, then getting lots of papers which entitles you to do anything you want with the car.

If you are comfortable with doing this, car registration is a flat fee of 120 EUR, MOT is like 35 EUR (possibly about 100 EUR, if you never show them the car) and insurance about 90 EUR/year, but 3rd party only.

This is over here in Estonia.
Probably even cheaper in Lithuania and Latvia.

Quite a bit of work, but you can save probably about 6000 EUR.
You can always PM me ...

Of course the biggest question is how strict the Italians are with checking the car, and whether you are allowed to drive a car registered in another country as an Italian citizen or not.
For example in Finland there is a law that prohibits a Finnish citizen to drive a car not registered in Finland on Finnish soil, so all such schemes are useless.

Well the issue put up quite a debate as you alla can imagine here in Italy.
The forums are full of threads about this and the Clubs are suffering about this.
                      My Club already lost:

                      3 S4 4.2 V8
                      1 RS2
                      1 RS6 4.2 V8

                      All of them sold abroad.....

I'll probably go for a nearby country registration.
About the possiiblity of driving a car with foreigner plates

As long as the two countries involved agreed with the Schengen (freedom of moving goods and people between the countries) treaty there should be no problem

Well, if there is no problem with driving with plates from abroad, then it should be quite easy as long as you know someone from a different country without tax, who could have the car in their name, and who you trust.
