I perfectly understand the "safty" stuff, brakes, tyres, suspension joints etc but only to the point of is it dangerous. but seriously rear door operation, and using the term "excessive" one mans excessive is another mans bit rusty.
The british goverment (labour, lib dem or tory) doesn't realise it is slowly backing itself into a corner with the general population, what with excessive tax on booze and fags, petrol and car tax higher and higher income tax brackets, and then cutting any sort of help for those of us who work but need a little help. sorry
You may get it through with the ecu hidden but have a crash with it like that and they'll come down on you. It is still "illegal" after all

but would it have to undergo a DVLA test post crash? I mean, if your ECU mods are declared to your insurance company?

Very true but id hazard a guess and say somewhere in the policy it will say the car must have a valid mot for insurance to stand.

You wouldn't get away with hiding anything in N. Ireland anyway. In the past I have failed because my brake pipes were dirty and they couldn't see them. My Dad failed because they suspected the end of a fexi hose was rotten but it was covered buy a factory fitted rubber boot and they couldn't remove it to look. They'd just tell you the car is not in a state which permits inspection.
