The new rules are- if your car is post 31 july 1992 it has to have a cat fitted irrespective of passing the emissions test or not.
Not really any different from how it was before- ive only seen 2 cars pass a cat test with no cat fitted an these were unmodified jap imports.

Oh and dont worry about this modified ecu fail crap- it cant be policed as we are not allowed to remove panels etc.
I had a chat with my vosa examiner and he told me that its all b0ll0cks!!

I get stricter from May as thats when the warning lights come into play (airbag/MIL/TC/electric pas etc....)

You should be more worried about your HIDS as thats what the ministry is hot on at the moment.

Or you could take a trip to Gods own country and take some proper driving roads on your way home!!!:mischeif::mischeif:

so does that mean then that VOSA will be conduction roadside MOT compliances then? Such a load of cr*p all this cat/decat stuff...these cars probably all do less than 5-10K p/a or are on limited miles policies so outright polution is self controlling anyway

I have a 3" actuator operated bypass valve where the cat should be. I know a lot of track cars use a cat as a tailpipe where regulations require a cat to be fitted. What would be the deal with that on an MOT?

Don't know if it would get hot enough at the back end of the system.

I had one at the end of the downpipe once and it disintegrated the first time we went over 500ponies. Not really concerned whether the cat does its job at the end of the system more if it is classified as a passable entity in respect to having a cat fitted.

Also whats the deal with roadside tests?

The MOT failure is " No cat converter fitted where one was fitted as standard"
Doesnt matter where it is fitted, as long as it is.

Ok that's good to know so I can get a sports one after the bypass valve which opens at 1bar and therefore wont be a restriction :-D

These are carried out by Vosa and the police , they are very tough on vehicles and can prohibit your vehicle from leaving the site of the inspection without rectification work being carried out. I.E if the stop you for having HID headlamps and they are not self cleaning/leveling they will prohibit your vehicle from being used on the road unless the HID'S are removed or it is the daytime when you do not need your headlamps.

They are basically roadside MOT tests ......
