if you have just upgraded vag com you have to set up cable to the software first, go into vag com and there is a update button for driver/cable, the only other thing i can think of is bad cable conection? try another usb port as well

Can you see the usb port in Device Manger hardware? If so force it to 2, 3 or 4 and make sure vagcom port info is set the same.

            Hi Steve.

I assume with you mentioning the specific version (908) it's a clone cable.

Usually, when this happens it is because either the 2x2 connector has been put on the wrong way around (yes, it's possible) or the cable has been used with an updated version of the software, the update contains a 'blacklist' and the vag908 cable's onboard processor (the atmega chip) has some data written to it causing it to, simply put, require re-flashing with a known working/good file.

If you're after a cable, I may be able to help.

Cable is straight out of pkt , no not fried it with connecting wrong way round on 2x2

Quite possible about update as I have installed new drivers from vag.com ?

How do you get all the ports to work with the USB cable, it is on device manager under USB part but not in the com ports

The update has probably killed it then.

If it's a clone/Chinese cable, using anything other than the supplied software has a high chance of frying the atmega.

You may be able to revive it by reprogramming the atmega. However, you'll need a good quality flash file, an old parallel cable and some time.

It may also be possible to revive it by just changing the vid & pid of the cable + trying an update with mprog or similar.

You could try (worth a shot) remove vcds + the windows usb drivers, restart your system and then try installing v908 of the software again and see whether your cable is detected and then connects to the car. If it does, Brucey bonus. If it doesn't you'll want to brush up on your atmega programming skills or you have a rather useful usb cable with a plug on the end.

                Good luck!
