Yes this is true, BMW are a generation in front with their small diesels IMO

I did try and tell him he just needed an RS2! And if something newer was required - a B5 RS4 I can appreciate after the hassle of the S2 (and now his Clio but I won't go there) the desire for a fun, economical, warranty'd on the drive is rather desirable...

I was a bit surprised myself - this thing is a 2.0 Turbo petrol motor with 218bhp and rated at 44mpg combined. 0-62 is 6.4s on the manual box so no slouch either! Should be alot of fun with RWD and manual.

Unfortunately though, that is far more accurate for the latest Audi-fanboys. The only people seemingly left in the BMWs are the real enthusiasts!

I see far more A3/4 TDI's driving up peoples arses and pushing their way down the "fast-lane" than i do 3 or 5 series.

Interesting comment, reflected to me a couple of months back by somebody in the trade, who said almost word for word what you have said and the Editor of a VW mag who also said that Audi had become the new BMW .... and it was not said as a compliment.
I personnally think the design has lost the plot and the current VW fronts are much more appealing than these huge ugly gaping grilles Audi are fitting ....
