This may be why I hung out for a car with 70k miles on it. I also work with an ex Audi main dealer expert mechanic

Well, yeah, I just bought a car for below market price, and I knew I had to put money into it.
But that way, I now have a car where everything that needed doing is done, and with all that included I paid about the market price for what a RS4 goes in germany with just below 130k on the clock.

The only things that are wrong with it now are noisy PAS pump, a few light bulbs, and a gearbox that needs an overhaul, because it does not work as well as it should unless the oil is at perfect temperature, so that will be done in the winter.

I know in the UK these cars are cheaper, because your insurance, tax etc is killer.
Here I pay 100quid a year for 3rd party on the RS4, and that's it. And we have no car tax.

Uhm, why would you compare with a stock RS4.
Stock RS4 is a pretty tame beast. I tried flashing it to stock. It's really progressive and smooth.
Remapped RS4 is where it's at. Especially when you remove the 77% max throttle restriction until 3000 rpm, it's savage

Anyway, you are comparing a car which costs at least 2x as much to buy and maintain, and that is close to 10 years newer. Of course it's going to be better to drive.
I would be surprised if it wasn't.

That said, if I was building a fast weekend toy with big turbo, I'd take a light 3B Coupe any day over a RS4.

But, as we all know, an RS4 is a factory released car so that arguement isnt really relevant is it

Anyway, this is all going off topic... the original debate being has anyone else thought about getting one

Last year I test drove several RS4's having owned an MRC mapped Avant for almost 5 years.
I thought I needed to see and feel where my money was going and so I thought I needed an RS4. I now like meeting RS4's on the road as they look at where their car came from and NOT where my RS2 would like to be.

For the money I blew on service and tires right now, I could have built a 600hp 2.2T.
EASY.

Of course, the RS2 is very expensive to buy, even more expensive than RS4 sometimes.
So it is not right to say it's 2x more expensive to buy if comparing RS2 and RS4.
But the reason RS2 is so expensive is because it was the first RS car and there were much fewer made.
