Not fitted the head yet. My plan is to run the A6 over winter while I work on the S2, then swap and work on the A6 over summer.

Since the S2 has been misbehaving I've not had a lot of time to work on this, luckily it has remained utterly reliable all winter. I've now got the head re-built



The valves turned out to be bent so it's had new valve guides, valve seats re-cut, a new set of valves and new lifters. Turbo has also bee rebuilt, looks as good as new!





I'm also going to replace the downpipe with one off a 2WD car and de-cat it.

Finally got some time to work on this today so I thought I'd tackle the de-cat. The car has felt very strangled at the top end recently and I was convinced it was down to blocked cats. While I was de-cating it I thought I might aswell make a new downpipe, so here's what I started with:-



I had some left over 70mm tube from when I did my brothers S2 so I thought I might as well use that.

Here's the turbo flange that I had already made



I got the old exhaust stripped off and I was right the cats must have been at least 50% blocked and they weigh a ton, so I'm expecting to see a good gain from this mod. I'll post up more pics tomorrow when it's finished.

Well that is slightly dissapointing, given how badly the CATs were blocked up, I was expecting to feel much more of an improvement that that, not even got any change in the sound

It does feel better, just not the night and day change I was expecting. I'll check MPG over the next couple of weeks and see if that improves.

Fitted a new fuel pump drive belt last weekend, not a moment too soon looking at the old one



Had problems with the pump timing fluctuating which I've been told is an internal fault on the pump, so I fitted a re-conditioned pump at the same time. The engine now runs much smoother and smokes less



Now looking for an audi tensioning tool 3303 if anybody knows where to get one?



Tried emailing Samstag tools with now response yet, and dealer was no use either.

Top tip for tensioning. I use a fishing spring scale. Hooks on and you can pull the correct poundage.

Take your old cats to the scrap yard. I got £130 for mine!

Scrap man at work told me prices were low at the moment and to wait until after Christmas to see if they picked up.

Found the poundage on Audifans, 2.5Kg or 5.5lbs for reference, bought one of these and reset the tension at the weekend.
