Bit confused! I thought there was only five wires in a six connector on the maf. The maf terminals are male.
I appreciate the desirability of plug in solutions, but is it not possible to repopulate the existing maf harness terminals into say 2X3 pin connectors. That should be within the scope of most people on here!
Just got off the phone to Audi parts support and they confirm full availability of the RS2 MAF in Germany. That information aside would it not easier to swap the connector housing when changing the HFM? The contacts are the same in the S2/RS2 MAF and the B5 RS4 MAF. Just the connector housing differs. Even without the terminal tools as Dmitri has shown in a previous thread deft use of a needle will release the contacts.

the best intentions are fraught with disappointment - gil grissom

It's pretty easy to change the connector housing, surely a much easier & cheaper solution to making up custom parts etc

The thing is, if I want to sell this as a product, it must be plug and play.
Tinkering with contacts and rewiring all can be done, but it would defeat the purpose in some ways...
Keep in mind, that I would have to have a board in the middle between the MAF, to where the thing would connect.
You can't connect a HFM5 directly without extensive ECU modifications (which I do, but still...)

Understood! It is admirable to want to make it right.
However if its a right PITA then its sort of counter productive. Besides it can only add to the costs.
Obviously we don't know whether the intended replacement as discussed above uses the same terminals as the RS4. If it does and you have a solution for the maf end, would it not be possible to use the equivelent male female connector for the harness end? Then the end user would just need to repopulate the connector in the harness and the interface would have an elegant matching male/female connection. Of course this assumes that the male/female connectors are are available!
