Picked up a cabriolet this morning

Another member who has bought a cabriolet! Needs some work doing if it's going to get back on the road though, two minor jobs the hood and engine.

I've decided that it would be a shame to break it as it seems to have well backed up low mileage and very good paint. Although it does have some form of iffy body kit.

The first thing I need to sort is the hood. Does anyone on here have any experience of troubleshooting the electric hoods on these? The hydraulic pump runs but nothing happens...

The seats have been re-trimmed, which won't be to everyone's taste... seems to be a pretty good job though.

I'll get on to the engine at a later date.

Nice I like it. Try dead locking the boot then unlock the car via the door. Boot should stay locked.

looks tidy. Is that a genuine rs2 bumper or a rep?

Look on audifans for info about the hoods, theres a wealth of information on there. Most common causes are the looms under the boot lid and the switch in the centre console.

Look forward to seeing what you do with it

Haha yes it only came with one eyelid, apparently it's all the rage!

It came with a pair of sidewinders.

those cabriolets with Recaro's seem to be quite common now? Retrim could have been done better but the car looks nice and the replica front bumper looks fine.

On mine I have to lock the boot manually with key so that the roof starts to move. Also it is good to remember that handbrake must be applied when operating the roof.

As mentioed, do check the wire looms on both sides of the boot hinges, you’ll need to open each loom up to check each wire individually. Well known weak point. PITA.

Lose the eye brow for sure, rather than get a second one.

It’s getting like everyone with an S2 has also bought a B4 Cabrio, for when their S2 is off the road while just doing one small item which morphs into a full on suspension / engine rebuild that takes months / years.

Having said that, they are a very attractive car in Cabrio format. And pretty inexpensive for a nice sounding V6.

                        Looking forward to updates.

                        Kind regards.

Your right the cabs are challenging for the S vehicles, they are a good looking car though.

Mine comes out rarely but each time it does someone always compliments the car, strange but true.

                          Enjoy

Making some progress on this, the engine problem was down to a broken thermostat which wasn't opening at all, hopefully replacing that will solve the overheating issue!

The body kit is Rieger which is good as their RS2 rep bumpers are quite highly rated, I've removed the bumper and it is solidly built, seriously thinking about keeping the bumper for the S2.

Still need to sort out the roof problems though, have a vag com wire so will be studying "measuring blocks" over the next few days!

Have also been batteling with coupe leaks, had to re-seal a tail light which was letting water into the brake light bulbs and spare wheel well. That's all dried out now, after finishing this job I found a puddle in the o/s back seat footwell luckily turned out to be a bottle of water with a hole in it!
