MFTS, different sensor made to work instead?

After calling TPS and expecting to buy a MFTS for £70 ish, i was told it is NLA but there is a new part instead but it costs over £100!!

I feel this is extortionate for a temp sensor. I am wondering if Paul Nugent or PRJ can work out the wiring so an alternative sensor can be made to work eg B5 sensor. I am aware a B5 sensor mounts differently but i can fabricate something to make this work, it is the wiring i am struggling with.

I am sure that a solution to this will help a lot of us now and in the future.

Smack the old part on the bench a few times, it should work again!

Agree with all of your post.

Keen to learn if a less expensive sensor will work also.

      Good question.

Banging it doesn’t really appeal as a permanent solution, also a pita to keep taking the sensor off and on.

Banging it has lasted about 3 yrs for me so far (this time). You can bang it in situ too with a long socket extension or similar.
There's not much to go wrong inside the sensor, there's a spring which grounds the electronics to the sensor housing, this gets a bit of corrosion and the sensor goes out of spec. A little jolt will usually shift the contact slightly and it works fine for another 1,2 or 3 yrs.
The other thing is to make sure the connector is clean. Often they're full of corrosion

You can get the new 3 pin sensor from a few places for a lot less than that, pete reeve at quattro corner, custom autocraft, 034 etc.

Search MFTS and you will get a load of threads with issues and fixes.

My problem was plug corrosion as newsh mentioned, check the loom plug as well, mine was rotten.

Plug is fine on mine. I will try banging it with a small hand held variable press, thank for the suggestion Newsh.

I would still like to find out a way to wire up a more modern and cheaper eqivelent.

A B5 sensor has 4 pins that's = 2 independent temp sensors. One for instrument cluster and other to ecu. It's fairly easy to adapt it, just you would loose a overheat temp switch that's mounted in MFTS. Also, you would need to change the connector and maybe a little resistance configuration.
