Easy if you dont have the plastic shrouds, I can do mine in about 5 minutes, 2 x 13mm nuts and 3 hoses and the plug on the otter valve

Shame about the radiator Will, good luck getting a replacement asap! Do you have the radiator shrouds on? Is it worth me putting them back on?

The way a lot of s2's need working on is it worth most owners putting the bonnet back on?

mine had them all on, but it means either taking them off to get the rad out which is very fiddly or splitting the power steering lines... i wouldnt say they do a fat lot

im even considering not putting the ac rad on for now as it's not gased up.

One thing the inner shroud does is keep the airflow from the aux rad separate from the main rad, if you don't run the aux rad..

Just my thoughts but I have had my car 4 years n the rad wasn't new even then, long story short it hadn't split or anything but was on its way out so swapped it out. Upon removal I found it was a nissens one, I don't think it was that bad.

No shrouds here, no problems in traffic or on track and strip.

I've been pondering the cause of this failure and I'm hoping its just old age...

I'm wondering if this is a sign that the head gasket is starting to go and pressurising the coolant system. Coolant was clean but I may drop the oil and filter soon to see if there's any signs. Really hope not or ring trip will be cancelled

Mine did the same thing a week after I bought the car. Simply a case of age, vibration and heat cycling.

As long as you stopped straight away, you should be fine. New HG isn't a bad idea if it's original.

Not sure if HG is original or not to be honest, no record of it being done. If I wasn't going in a couple of weeks I'd do it, Not sure if ill have time/funds to do it right now
