You can put brake cleaner on parts off the car, just make sure that they're clean and dry before they go back on. Getting brake cleaner in the oil wouldn't be a good idea though

Fit new clips wherever possible and ditch the silly stock clips.

If your car is stock in everyway, just take all bits apart and clean them every year once. If you are running more boost, you are better off getting a catch tank. May be overkill but it would still allow the car to breathe better

I will be replacing all clips as a matter of practise anyway but cheers for the advice.

As for catch tank, I would love to but I don't have the money at the moment. It's been a rather expensive month already and I have some fairly major expenses coming up over the next 6 months so I am hoping to do the catch tank towards the end of the year so for the time being I'm trying to clean things up and keep costs down

So when I took the bits off the car last night I had to get some pics so people could see how gundged up these things get.... My advice is if you havent cleaned it up by now, do it soon.

And a lovelly gundgey flame trap!

Gads!! Looks like my lungs after a heavy night out.

Joking aside... What you planning on cleaning it with?? Was it a pain to access the parts of the breather. Maybe a job needed doing then...

A swirl pot and catch tank from rusty

I have cleaned it all out with brake cleaner and something my brother gave me called Hyper clean by Comma. I fitted some new valves

                  PN 034 129 101B pressure regulating valve
                  PN 035 103 245A Bleeder valve

and cleaned the flame trap by soaking it in the Hyper clean but is best to replace if they are in stock.

It is all nice and clean now and ready to be refitted.

Basically its fairly straight forward to remove all the items but it is fiddly as its all underneath and behind everything else in the engine bay which sucks. Im not looking forward to refitting it all as I know its going to be a ball ache and fiddly again!

If you can afford to do the swirl pot and catch tank then I guess do it.

Thought I may as well do it seeing as I have had the head rebuilt and wanted the car to run as best as it could. I also get a little puff of smoke every now and then so it cant hurt to clean it all out. I am hoping with this done once it burns off what ever is in the system it will all go back to how it should be. I miss my car being totally reliable and making me happy.
