I know a lot of the newer defenders have the transit lump in it, which is fine. But i'd go for a TD5, a chipped one drives like a car. (I had a chipped Disco II TD5 and it flew)
As standard with landies, look out for rot on the chassis and the bulkhead and worn suspension (listen for clunking and excessive transmission slack). My old 90 SW (1999) was built so it had galavanised everything and a WOLF version of the 300 TDI. Unfortunately alot of that stuff wont apply to newer ones. Im afraid thats as far as my newer landie knowledge extends im afraid.

Well the picture you have posted is a Defender 90. The 90 Denotes that it is a short wheel base but is actully 93", longer verions are known as a 110, longer than this is known as 127" or 130"
The thing with the Defender is that they look virtually the same from 1983 to present day.
And a 1983 one can be made to look like a 2012 one with a few subtle changes and a nice paint job.
I bought this 1990 127" in February in 1000's of pieces in boxes, It was built and on the road for 1st March.
