      Good question Carl.
My first one was a snooper. That never let me down. It died after about five years of rain and muck on the front bumper. So I got the new model at the time. Mines the sld950x. This is the first real test of it. I'll have looky at its mounting as they do bang on about them needing to be perfectly inline and level. I was careful when I fit it but is was a while ago and could've moved.

I know exactly where you mean... so tempting to give it a few beans under there...

30 limit there is completely ridiculous though. And I'm saying this as someone who sticks to most red-ring limits. It's a dual carriageway with no side hazards until the merge, generally good visibility.

Plus it's not like there should be loads of people walking around near there anyway.

Did you get a ticket or a summons? At 47 you should have been just under the threashold for the latter... but probably too quick to be offered a training day instead?

Your jammer may have failed because of the range. At long range, the area it's looking for the laser over covers most of the car, so it'll definitely pick up the jammer. At short range, the same angle only gets a small area of the car, perhaps not containing the jammer.

The roadside vans normally point it at the number plate in order to get picture of that while they're at it, but a regular traffic car doesn't need to do that if they're planning to pull you over at the time.

Talking of roadside vans, I think I may have been done by one on the M180. There's one spot where they're usually parked on a really long curve. Anyway, turned out, they weren't there... they were around the next curve. Was doing 82 by my clock, so hopefully doing under 79 in real terms.

Guess I shall wait my two weeks and see...

That was the day after I shat myself when I noticed blue lights from an unmarked 5 series behind me, as I was doing 90ish... but I moved out of the way and they ploughed right past... seriously shifting, so whatever they were after it was going faster than me!

Ah okay. Sorry to hear that mate... hope it doesn't affect your insurance too much.

Should've argued that an A2 couldn't possibly accelerate that fast

Think yourself lucky she didn't catch you in a NSL dual-carriageway where you could have been doing far in excess of 17mph over the speed limit

Just bear in mind it has been ruled that 'small mistakes' do not render the notice invalid. That said, if the location is massively wrong, you might have a case.

The magistrates can give significantly higher fines and more points, and the Crown Court can give unlimited fines... so best to consider risk vs. reward!

Unfortunately, the problem with the fixed penalty system is that it makes it hard to fight your corner without incurring further risk!

I've always thought there would be a business in having a friendly company or a friend in a non eu country that would take (agreed) ownership and registration of cars - new registration, new plate .... you get the idea.

A yearly fee .... call it a rent to hire the car back with really helpfully unspeedgunable plates.

Frought with issues I'm sure .... but worth a thought .... Oh ! - there';s a knock at my door, must be the SFO

                      What are unspeedgunnable plates though?

What about the plate on my car? Am I right in thinking that I can never be fined by a speed camera in the UK with these plates?

I don't really think so though. AFAIK there is no centralized database right now and it does not matter if you are on EU plates or not.
Perhaps a few select countries have cooperation agreements, but I know 100% that my country's car register would not even be allowed to divulge such information unless the order came from the local police or a governmental institution...

There also has to be a good reason for a request of such information. I don't think anyone is ever going to bother pursuing a speeding fine.

                            I created a word - unspeedgunnable ...
I was meaning a plate registered in a country where UK authorities have no chance of pursuing a claim .. hence, outside (even) the UK as they can trace you withing the EU (once upon a time they couldn't) ... we'd need a forum member with particular connections (even'in all) to carry on this chat .....
prj - that car looks faster than the shutter speed on any camera so i think you are safe

They can't really trace you in the EU for a speeding fine.
Now, if you do something really naughty an interpol database entry might appear, and then that automatically goes into all the police systems in all countries.

But those do not have any classifications that have anything to do with a speeding fine.
They are like "arrest right away", "observe", "let the person always go free" etc.

I worked some on some interpol integration for the police systems in my country a while ago, so I have some sort of idea about this.
Basically no one is ever going to put in an interpol request over a speeding fine.

Also, most countries have some sort of rules that say if the costs to get the claim are higher than the claim itself, and those costs are not possible to retrieve later on, then the claim should be dropped.
