The point I was making which seems to have been overlooked is that the car in question is an S2avant.

The RS2 which came with Cup 1 alloys from the factory had specific tyres. Dunlop SP8000 245/40 ZR 17. These were the only tyre type approved for fitting to the unique 17x7 Cup 1 wheels on the RS2. These tyres are long since gone so the preferred alternative is to fit 225/45. Fitting a normal 245/40 tyre to a Cup 1 7" rim is dangerous.

Replica cup 1 wheels, will almost certainly be 17x7.5 which will be ok with a 245 section tyre.

The wear on the inside edges is not related to the tyre type I don't think.

for 245/40/17, the right size for rims should be 8" , below that it s quite narrow

i did fit 235/40/17 on 7.5" and it was already limit

Well since changing all 4 tyres nearly 5 months ago, and a few thousand miles, the wheels seem to be much better, especially on the front including keeping their tyre pressure, which before i was checking tyre pressures and adding air constantly, which only confirms to me more that the tryes were too wide,

thanks for all the help guys
