S2's how quick are they really???

I was driving into work tonight when i noticed someone up my chup. I looked and it was a 53 plate S3 inches from my boot.
I gunned it in 2nd and 3rd he took the bait, I did pull away from him and as we ran out of road at a ton into a steep right hand bend he backed away.

I dont normally bite but i hate having people drive up my chuff.

I used to own an S3 and the S2 feels faster and certainly has more torque.

Now I know my S2 is standard but in fine fettle, I don't know what has been done to the S3 if anything.

My question is do we convince ourselves these cars are mega quick??? Or do you just get used to it?

Whatever, the one thing I do know mine sounded better.

Drivng up your chuff? Nail your brakes (and then accelerate). Gives 'em a clue to back the FK off. (Repeat as necessary)

Stock S3s are slow as ****. But then, stock S2s aren't much better from what I remember. I didn't realise such a thing existed anymore.

If you think you car is feeling slow, try sitting in the passenger seat when someone else drives. I find that gives a different perspective.

Just get used to it..I'm already yearning for more power

But our S2s look and sound way better, more classy, sleepers

        Also..very heavy cars

There's not a lot of difference in weight between an S2 and an S3. But obviously the S3 doesn't have most of it hanging out in front of the front wheels.

I dont think it's slow for a minute and it's heavier than an S3 the whole thing lasted 10 seconds at best so i guess i covered alot of ground in that time.
As for standing on the brakes stuff that. I have just had her painted and got her back together theres no way i'm risking a scratch! ha ha.

              10 seconds to a 100mph I am impressed

Newer and more modern cars are very quiet and refined, my car is loud(ish) and sounds like I'm doing a ton when I'm only doing 50
For what this cost me so far I could have bought an S2

A lot of cars are quicker, a modern tdi will give a stock S2 hard time. But, VERY FEW cars will launch like an S2, i doubt any 2wd and most 4wd cars will keep with an S2 with a 4500rpm launch, and they will kill a lot of cars top end.
I think they are fantstic out of corners too but the best thing is nobody expects an old audi 80 to be fast.

                  Absolutely this. TDIs scare me....

I love my car from a standing launch, even on my knackered diff. However, You have modern 1.6 engines that have better 0-60 and power-per-tonne figures than our motors.

I think the standard S2 owner has most power as a sleeper, and against 90's jap crap. Sadly, IMO, we're not in the game against modern even semi-performance metal.

True..we are a bit behind (Removed my spare wheel to save weight )

Think on an RS2 setup we can keep up with most though

They don't scare me, but I do have 380 HP, I think you need to tune your car,
even just a chipped S2 with 280 HP will out run a subaru or evo, well mine did anyway,
Now with chipped RS2 set-up it destroys them.

Do you think RS2 setup is enough for the road on this car?

I've got an S3 like that. Newer cars can be 'unrefined'. I found hard suspension and engine mounts, a 1 box exhaust and a single mass flywheel will give some decent old skool feel.

I always found the S2 took a while to show it's advantage over other cars, showing itself at higher speeds, especially cornering. Although the Coupé felt like it needed a bigger rear spoiler to hold it down at about 160+.

I agree about the S2 launch too, as it has the added advantage of the diff lock. But I do have an A3 that launches pretty hard. It will see off most stuff if the other driver isn't on their game.

That was one good thing about the slush-box in the pre-DBW S8. It made traffic light GPs so easy. One foot on the brake, one ready on the throttle, and go. I was never beaten, even against a traffic cop in a 530d. I think he was too embarrassed to pull me over.
