If you only ever drive on the road, then a well remapped RS2 setup is perfect IMHO.

I sometimes wish I had stuck with this.

No. Diff lock is almost essential. Unless you want to break stuff.

Now with chipped RS2 set-up it destroys them.
380bhp is quite a bit (and a few £££) away from my stock 3B, which I think was what the OP was talking about.

I agree I need to tune my car, but a standard S2 is not the car it was 10 years ago Subarus and Evos are no longer the enemy. It's standard diesel motors that beat us through the mid-range.

Thanks for that bit of advice, clutch still bedding in anyway so no crazy launches for now , but overall I'm kind of an old lady driver with the S2

Enough for what/who? Not me personally, I think 500 HP will be enough,
that will be my next tune, although my misses is pregnant again so this will be
              on hold (again )
not only that but it's about as far as you can go without silly money,
lots of lag, or having to run silly fuel. With 500 HP you still get OK drive ability
so I will probably stick with that when it finally gets done!

It boils down to the driver totaly, most modern semi quick cars can be driven smooth and fast by my mum. But mums would be slow in the old S2.
Most S2 owners are car guys and can pedal their S2 with great skill. this makes a difference.

How quick is an S2? a 285hp avarage example driven well will be as quick as the younger competition.
To properly paste modern fast cars (a focus RS is 302hp) you need chipped RS2 power, i would just buy a B5 S4 if i wanted a road weapon.

If your I the right gear you should not have any trouble with
standard diesel cars, even if you S2 is stock.

Mine made mincemeat out of an A7 tdi the other day

Could see him looking over as we approached the roundabout wondering what I was driving

nobody can keep with an s2 into corners if its got stock brakes, that fade can equate to walter rohl cornering speeds!
I had mine on out trade plates the other day, i have driftin jo's old ECU, no cats and an RS2 airbox, i didnt think it was that quick, but i minced a celica GT4 with a
big pipe on it, FMIC and a cage. It was funny as i was in my unbadged stock looking dirty avant, the other pilot looked shocked.. i then cooked the brakes and the next bend was quite epic, he didnt follow..

I have found unexpected gravel under braking has a similar effect!
At least you can left foot brake on the old stuff. That really annoys me sometimes with DBW stuff.

i certainly agree that modern cars can be driven smooth by just about anyone... Driving smooth in a variety of cars takes driving ability.

I was going to suggest locking the diffs and dumping the clutch at 4.5k, but it probably doesn't fit into the 'smooth' category!
