I find that the worst thing about the s2 is the poor initial throttle response, but when on boost my mrc mapped rs2 coupe will do the job on most cars, between breakages that isBut you do have to make sure you don't let the diesels catch you napping.
Break the boot is the best way to deal with them,if they get a run on you its curtains.
I think the weight is a major factor slowing the s2 down. Loose a bit of weight and all that torque really shows who's boss. With my stock ABYed typ85 90 I had a go with a 320hp turboed integra and he couldn't get past and in 5th I was pulling away. The tag was stripped, caged, coil overs, big brakes etc and would have pumped me at the first corner if it was a closed road.
When I recently purchased a Saab tdi sport as a daily driver I was impressed but also dissapointed that through the mid range it pulls like my standard URq did and the handling wasnt far off either. The occurance of torque steer and wheel spin soon reminds me why the quattro is best though.
On boost, I have never worried about diesel drivers other than laughing at them as they chuck it down a gear with plumes of derv smog pouring out the back but with little effect as I sail by. Especially funny with the new Jags. They don't like it em.
Agree with previous post about 10v engines sounding the best. An old CQ 10v was the best sounding car I ever owned, just lacked power (badly)

So you have an MRC mapped RS2, so that's ~380HP and your having a problem with diesels, may I suggest you change down a couple of gears.
Too many people seem to think you can sit in 4th 5th or even 6th gear and out run things then are puzzled when they don't.
AT 3000 revs with an RS2 turbo you have plenty of torque
but not a lot of HP, it's torque at the wheels that makes acceleration and you achieve that with a gearbox in the correct gear !
I was lucky enough to own both a 1978 930 Turbo (3.3/ 300hp) and a slightly modified RS2 (335 hp) at the same time and often compared them. Chalk and cheese in the handling department, 930 was very communicative with very strong self correcting steering which made the RS feel numb by comparison (930 has no power steering) quickest way to apply opposite lock in the 930 was to let go of the wheel for a second and the car woul do it itself, much faster than I ever cold ! Before I fitted the GT3 brakes on the RS , the 930 had the better brakes, it had mild servo assistance but they were superb. Now the RS has better brakes now but not as sensite in feel, prefer servo set up.
On the performance side the RS was quicker, but it was close up to about 80 when the RS would surge ahead. It is important to be in the right gear in both cars to get the best out of them , I will never forget being caught in the wrong gear in the 930 while going up hill, tried to overtake and was embarrassed by the lack of power, it would have been quicker on a push bike, until 3,000rpm when normal service was resumed. Turbo delivery was less violent in the 930, more of a shove than a kick, like the RS. The 930 had the advantage of only 4 gears which were very long legged, I could hit 90 in second ! Although I never hit top speed in either car they would probably be about the same but less stressful in the RS as the 930 got a bit floaty at the front over 120.
They are both fabulous cars and had to make the choice of which to keep about a year ago, the 930 was 1978 with only 40,000 on the clock and was beautiful but had become took good to use, if you know what I mean. It never let me down and always sterted first time even after sitting untouched for months. But against the RS, it had to go. The RS did almost everything the 930 could do but with the advantage of space.
One area where the 930 was best at was the sense of occasion when driving it, it had great presence on the road and I got a real buzz every time, it was a true classic sports car.. The RS is not a sports car, so perhaps not fair to compare them in the first place !
Can't say that my S2 has felt slow since I chipped and subsequently RS2'd it. Stock it was equivalent to most modern hot hatches but now it's not been troubled by much. TBH though, it's so subtle that it rarely gets any attention...

RS2'd S2 is the best in my opinion my 3B has more grunt and pull than the RS2 had. Agree with others though when it comes to sound my old 90 2.3 10v was a peach.

Thank you for your comments,I have owned turbo audis for 20yrs and had know idea they had more than one gear.
You are not the stig by any chance are you,but then again you can't be he hasn't much to say
I found the 930 tbo to be quicker, 330hp and 300kg ligher than RS2, its hard not to be. or are we talking tuned RS2.
I think you will find both the 930 and 964 turbo are faster. To me it explains why the RS2 was only tuned to 315bhp with lots of lag, would have been a little embarrassing otherwise.

Interesting thread, I love the flexibility of the "S2" (in my case turbo'd CQ)! Though, I am tempted to build a tribute to an RS2 saloon and I spend last weekend thinking about a 930 or 964 with VEMS and a modern turbo
