Pix went up against a V12 TDi Q7 in his RS2 at GTi International - it was close down the 1/4.
I think the Q7 was putting out 570odd hp and 1100nm something silly like that. Of course it weighs the same as a small planet but seeing something so large move so quickly was impressive. Good thing its steering wheel didn't come off

I am quite surprised about my seat ibiza tdi sport daily, for a diesel its surprised all the passengers just how it performs and revs, it rev's cleanly around to 5k which admitted is not high but with the gearing its fantastic.

      1st - 30mph
      2nd - 56mph
      3rd - 80mph
      4th - 125mph
i've not got up to the limiter in 5th/6th. If this was remapped it would be a proper weapon as its so light and small it had annoyed quite a lot of bigger machinery and got good economy as well. Its heading off to another forum member so hopefully he will chip it and see what it goes like.

Modern diesels are a different animal and the gap is closeing.Don't get me wrong I am not a fan of diesels, but they are no longer the noisey smelly smoke ridden sheds they use to be.
        Whatever gear you are in.
I don't think a Q7 6.0 L twin turbo tdi is an average example of a modern diesel,
it's 493 hp so of course it's not going to be slow.

still a second slower than me to 60 though

The audis were quick in their day but I think the hype is cnnected to highly tuned youtube cars. In 2012 the performance is ok. 230 hp n 1600 kg is average now and 311 in 1600 kg is a chipped vxr.
          I don't believe an A8 4.0 tdi would match a chipped S2,
standard they are 275hp and do 0-60 in 6.8, they weigh 1990 kg.
Even chipped they are not going to gain enough power to beat a chipped S2
with a 0-60 of 5.2 and 285hp weighing 1525 kg, over 100mph where weight is less of an issue a chipped one would have the advantage but that's all.

          Even the Q7 V12 tdi with 493hp and 738 ft/lbs of torque only does 0-60 in 5.5 and that's
a second slower than my chipped RS2 set up, granted it would start to real me
in after 80 but it would be well over 100 before it caught up, ask me how I know,
I had one try and chase me down a twisty b road, it was quite amusing for 30 seconds
until I couldn't see him in my mirror any more

Bet the lotus elise in front of you was having the same thought.I don't think anyone said the Q7 would be a good trackday car.

Through the seat of my trousers, my chipped 3.0 TDI A6 and my chipped S2 feel like the same sort of power. Which would make sense, because they're both in the 250 - 300 PS bracket.

The S2 is lighter however and you can tell it both straight line and cornering. The A6 has the advantage of modern suspension (albeit stock) but it can't hide the extra weight.

On the other hand, the A6 will get to the 'ring from Leeds and half way back on a tank... the S2 will get to the supermarket and half way back...
