Nice to know that whatever the circumstances, everyone presumes that anyone buying parts from an entire continent of people is a scammer. There are many countries and states in Africa.

However, I would be extra sceptical for sure.

The most importnat question to ask is, can you afford to lose the money, will it break you and try and satisfy you worries and or weigh up the risk.

Yeah Gus is right. Alot of us (me included) are tarring a whole continent with the same brush. It is true that many Nigerians especially are highly adept at scamming people all over the world. THat said, there are most likely many who fulfil transactions honestly but obviously we never heard about it (why would we?)

I guess if you can organise something whereby you have the actual cash in your hand, not a nominal figure that can vanish from your account, then you would be safe. Why don't you ask him to courier the USD equivalent to you. He will deffo be able to get his hands on dollars and it could most likely be insured as long as it wasnt thousands and thousands of dollars.

Good luck. Never got done myself but there are some clever gits out there. Think for the best but expect the worst.

I really like the confidence shown on payments coming out of Africa. There is no difference from payment from any other country including EU. I have made payment to over seas suppliers using paypal accounts and have used my credit card to make payments etc.

I have heard of this guy and have seen him rally his quattro in local Namibian rallies on TV.

Before bad mouthing every one in Africa, find out how the 419 scam works and that it is a Nigerian specialty. Else close all your bank accounts and credit cards ... NOW.

For those who do not know, South Africa is in the Southern tip of Africa and Namibia is the next country up the west coast. Both have modern big banks such as ABSA, Standard, First National Bank and Barclays just to name a few. Oh and yes, believe it or not, we do have phones both land lines and cell phones.

And the www. and 5 min on google , we have......

Discover the Namibia Motorsport Federation, the official body governing motorsport in Namibia since 1984. Affiliated with FIA and FIM, NMSF oversees 12 motorsport clubs and events, driving passion from January to December every year.

...."“Only four drivers won two years in a row. Louis Cloete and Willem van Heerden did it in 1972 and 1973, Laurence Koch and Dippies Dippenaar in 1984 and 1985, Roelof Coertzen in 1993 and 1994 and more recently Namibia’s own Gerhard Truter, with that monster Audi Quattro, in 2003 and 2004,” he said."

Here is how a typical 419 scam starts.

"Given my current state of health,I have decided to donate what i inherited from my late husband to you to help the poor and
needy. I am Mrs Sara Chow a Chinese living in Honolulu, I am 95yrs old.

Send across to my lawyer the information below on. mattsberg114@yahoo.com.hk as i have already given him all instructions.

            1) Full names as stated in your birth certificate.
            2) Contact telephone and fax number
            3) Full mailing address
            4) Age and occupation.

If you would have any question please feel free to contact me.

            Regards,

            Mrs. Sara Chow"

At the end they will have your whole life history and banking details, specimen signatures .. the works. Because some people are so stupid and greedy they can not think straight.
            Regards

Why not open a new bank account with no overdraft facility? Get him to pay the money into that then withdraw it before anything gets sent. Can't see that going wrong.

To be fair I would be cautious but I don't reckon it's a scam, 99.9% of African criminals aren't going to be all that interested in old quattro parts, their main currency's are, cash, drugs, diamonds, arms and people. Not parts for 1980's cars with a very small resale market, Hi-lux and other heavy 4x4 parts would be of far more use to them.

I also said that before. What would one do with those parts there(if interested in trading them for cash), I don't imagine that there are so many quattros there thus no interest in them.
