S2 coupe or Avant - LPG?

    Hi

Ive been looking recently for an S2 for daily use but shortish journys. From woking at home / local I now find myself over night having to drive up to 1000 miles a week with my job (Ive a new client spread all over the place).

Has anyone converted their S2 coupe or avant to LPG? Just thinking of a way to still go for an S2 but keep fuel costs down.... otherwise ill have to get a motorway muncher tdi special...

    thanks

Diesel Des has done it however IMO it's a bad Idea to use an S2 for that many miles you are considering, especially with the age of the car, for the price of the conversion you are better off getting a dedicated oil burner

I had a S6 avant, I'm good friends with Des and he got me into LPG, I have had 1.8T, S6, and the missus has a Scoob on LPG. I sold the S6 recently, even on the gas it was hard to run, back in a 1.9tdi Ibiza for now, can't get below 51mpg. I actually have Des's old mk2 golf tdi, 200whp and 150mph+. That's how he got his name.... So any questions fire him a PM.

Putting big miles on a car isn't just the cost of fuel but other wear items like big tires, brakes, *** holes opening doors and denting it etc. Its hard to beat a dented old car you care nothing about and can park up curbs and stuff.

But yea I run my urs4 and my wife's Leon cupra turbo on gas. I have done about 60k miles on the urs4 and its been very good. Other than filters I changed the gas injectors at about 50k miles as the idle balance had started to drift. But that was less than 100quid. I get about 20mpg on petrol and 17 to 18 on gas. I get better on a long run but thats my average. As i get gas for less than £0.6 per l, 18 mpg on gas is like getting 42mpg on diesel. Show me a diesel that gets that economy and can do 3 miles per minute.. No noticible change in power and the car doesn't smell like an oil refinery with the sunroof open and the foot down like it does on petrol. Deffo an option....

                Thanks Ivan

I forgot about golfs. Just wanted 4wd if I could. I do use winter tyres but 4wd would be good as well.

                  Thanks

I briefly had a S4 a while ago but it was accident damaged so I sadly gave it back. How do they fair with high milage? Where did you put the tank? Who did the conversion ?

                  Thanks

The S2 is not a car I would want to live with daily for big mileage. An S2 Avant would be better but really you want a derv. Plenty of honest hacks out there that will do the mileage no probs without hurting the longevity of your S2. Annual mileage of 3k is going to see a few problems no doubt but 1k per week would be daft and asking for trouble. If you did have a super low mileage, incredibly well maintained example, why would you want to put so many miles on it? Wouldn't be long before some fool smashed into you doing that kind of mileage.

Buy a cheap honest Derv and then a tidy S2 for a toy.

Its a urs4 aan advant I have. The tank goes in the wheel well and holds about 60l of gas. I did the conversion myself. Kme ecu and two kme gold vaporisers and magic jet injectors. Could fuel 500bhp if required. I'm just over 400.

Thanks for that, how about a 4.2 S4? Converted to lpg. Would that fair any better? Just motorway miles...

                        thanks

Your still feeding a 4.2 even if it's food is cheaper. If your trying to get 1.9 or 2.0tdi economy from a car on gas then nothing bigger than the 1.8t. If you want quattro then maybe an a4 quattro 1.8t.

Yep I know it's the right thing to do. I'll look for a burner.

I'll see what's around. For 5 k what do you think I should be able to get?

                            A3 170 tdi quarttro?
Older a4 avant q or higher mileage a6 3.0 tdi quarttro

It's been a few years since I've had an Audi so I'm not sure of the merits of each in terms of long distance and mileage.

The lasthigh mileage motorway car I had was a Nissan primera gt it was very reliable but I'd rather have 4 wd if possible.

                            Thanks in advance

Any of those you mentioned would be fine I would think. I have been looking at AS TDi's recently and they hold value pretty well. You might find an A6 with lower mileage for less money if you are lucky. Quite possibly that it would be a more comfortable drive for the mileage you are doing also.

Quattro will lose you some economy but I can understand wanting 4WD
