My list of to do's on the s2 is very small now aswell but having driven it yesterday after a week of a diesel van it was nice to be back in it and ive not been perving on r/s4's today.... Yet.
No I don't think it's expensive to run , thats not the case just find myself perving on other vehicles , I've spent a small fortune on it too , I think it's because I know what the engines can do but I dont think I can pour another 3k in for a power figure , plus I'm not sure they would increase my agreed value
When it comes to a hobby cost and value don't generally go hand in hand..
My RS4's just weren't rewarding enough to drive for the money they both swallowed, great cars nonetheless, the RS6's I have driven were even less rewarding than the 4's.
But hey sometimes you just have to scratch that itch...

I've spent over 4k since owning my S2 the past year..but it's a hobby and a car that I do not plan on selling in the future. Maybe one day I can add to it an RS2 and Ur Quattro
Personally, 80s and 90s are where it's at with Audi
I've spent over 12k on my RS4 within the last two years.
It's getting to a point where everything is new/rebuilt including the gearbox, turbos and engine.
RS6 is even worse, as aluminum block can't be rebored, the DRC suspension keeps going on them, and the autobox is weak as well.
Furthermore, they do not remap very well (50hp to be gained), compared to the RS4's 60-70hp, and if you put a remapped RS4 against a remapped RS6 then the RS4 is faster at each and every point, even on 1 mile top speed from my experience.
Now the V10 RS6 is a different animal... whereas the 4.2TT RS6 is utterly pointless.
As DJones said - the ratio between enjoyment and the money sink is just beyond "off-scale". Plus the fact that the 4.2TT RS6 really has not aged well. Where a B5 RS4 feels like an all around better RS2, the RS6 just feels like any other slushbox auto car you can go and buy.
yea b5 rs4's are nice too , but it seems they are better from the off as an out of the box car , sure people remap them change the exhausts etc etc i suppose the weigh up is tuned s2 or boggo rs4 thats the real question (i just read the guys thread about the auto box on an rs6 god thats not for me so that box has been un ticked)
at the moment im only swaying because the s2 has cheesed me off after remounting my h and r springs the correct way up (cheers h and r for printing your logo upside down) now it seems the brand new top mount is creaking on turning before it was the spring clonking and now DAM CREAKING aggghhhhhh
