I still love my Rallye,as you know they are also a rare beast. It will be a real shame to let it go,but i can't keep it as well as the potential Audi purchase. As only enough space for one in the garage
It would have to be the right car to make me part with the Rallye...Anyway here's a photo of the Rallye, hope you like it.

Stunning Golf there fella!! What you should do keep your daily runner keep the Golf as they are mega rare in the condition yours is in and buy a cheaper S2!!!

There are pics of my build on here under new s2 owner. Oh and best of all she is water tight, which is rare.
Your S2 looks really nice,i've just had a read through your build thread well done on the restoration.I'll have a think about what i'm going to do...RS2/S2.
I Have seen the Pearl Blue 3B thats for sale on here now, also looks like a nice car and local too.
PM me What sort of deal would you be thinking of with my Rallye?

I've recently joined this "family" and had to do the same choice as you and when I choose to go with a RS2 I knew I had to keept it standard. Imho these cars are getting more and more rare in stock/oem condition and a "rare" car like the rs2 deserves to be like it was built. I bet that many of the short serie of cars that was produced are wrecked also so it's even less cars out there.

Atm I'm changing parts on mine back to getting it back to as original as possible but it's really a pain with some parts that are really really expensive. The front bumper has been mentioned, the breakes cost a load and parts that are only for the RS2 are usually 2-4times as pricey as similar parts for a normal car :/ This is prolly smart to consider before you decide but if you decide to go with RS2 and are fine with using aftermarket parts or using parts from other models that does the job then it's not so much of a concern I guess.

I nearly bought a red rallye recently but it needed too much to de chav.it. shame

looked at 3 but luckily the 3rd was an honest car that hadn't been tampered with other than a tow bar which has now gone. It had a load of receipts and needs minor TLC to get it back to full health. The big shock is the parts prices but then again only at the level of a 911.

You can tell from the adverts if they are dodgy and I avoided those.

That all said drive it and you forgive it anything. An RS2/S2 is the best kept secret and although not the fastest thing I've owned dfinaltey the best thing. Like a big Lancia integrale really....

I've got a slightly modded S2 avant...and I'm just the eastern side of Nottingham, so not too far away.....there are plenty of S2's in the midlands....

that Rallye is awesome....I remember when I was running around in my mk 2 golf lusting after a rallye...and how much they were worth back in the early 90's!!...must be worth a packet now...

rallye with Quattro instead of syncro. then we have a car.

                            and right hand drive...and 16vt

ill go before I get shot for destroying an icon.

It's a lovely Rallye, but in my mind an 8v G60 is not powerful enough for the synchro drive train. It needs a 1.8T and conversion to rhd.

An 8v G60 engine was good enough in my Mk 1 Golf with a cable change six speed box with a quaife, but aways lusted after a friend's 16v G60 Mk 1.

The noise of a G60 is lovely, would have loved to had the funds and a second car to try a Rotrex charger on.

The lhd is a big deal for me, so much so that I changed my lhd Golf cabrio to rhd and put power steering in it. Was all the sweeter to drive.

Then had a Mk 1 Golf with a 1.8T and synchro conversion, but it had a few issues with the exhaust because of the propshaft in the standard exhaust tunnel. But once one has experienced the grip of 4wd, 2wd seems useless.

Then had a Mk 2 Jetta synchro with a 1.9T with 362bhp. Which was fun and very discrete - steel rims.

But then drove an S2 Avant and the sound of the I5 was intoxicating, and I was smitten and a lost cause. Sold my Mk5 Golf GTi dsg, and bought the S2.

If I had of bought an new Mk5 R32 and put a turbo on it, I would have spent less money since I got involved with various S2s, and urS6s.

I'll also get my coat re the comments on the Rallye.

This rambling post is of no help to the original poster.
