Scottish highlands trip

Morning all,

Just thought I'd share my recent holiday with you all.

Myself and my girlfriend have just spent that last 8 days traveling around Scotland and took in some great views, met some lovely people and drove on some great roads. Also it only rained 2 of the days!!

Covered around 1300 miles and the Leon performed excellently, even got upto 39mpg once! not bad for a 270 brake hot hatch!
Was great fun on some of the twisty roads too!

Here's a quick picture:


The route we took included:
Glasgow - overnight stay after driving from home, Doncaster.
Then onto For William, Skye, Eilean Donan castle, Applecross (via the Bealach na Ba, aka: Pass of the cattle), Torridon, Kindlochewe, Gairloch, Ullapool, Inverness, Falkirk and then home.

I'll post up some pictures this evening along with some more details of good roads / pubs / views if people are interested.

The pass of the cattle has some of the most stunning surroundings in the UK, need a clear day to appreciate the views properly. The north west coast of Scotland has got to be my favorite holiday destination, hope to go up for a long weekend in the G60 before the weather gets too rubbish. My preferred route is similar to the one you took only I tend to carry on north up the coast from Ullapoole and round too Tongue before heading back inland too Altnaharra and down through Lairg en-route south before hitting the A9 and Inverness.

I grew up in Duncraig, which is about 16 miles from Lochcarron where you would have passed through. For people coming from down south and wanting an overnight stop in that area, I'd recommend the Plockton Hotel. Plockton is definitely worth a stop off for the views and pints etc.

I really enjoyed the coastal road leaving Applecross going North, then East towards Kinlochewe, between points K to N on the map. Also the road round the top of Skye is great.

Theres a Dark Blue N reg S2 in Portree, wondered if you may of seen it.

Not Me though.
