    windscreen and the MOT...

Can anyone guess where the mahoosive crack in the windscreen is?

Found out that - as long as the swept area (from the wiper blades) is clear and there is no visible "bad" damage outside the swept area, all shoud be fine for the MOT...

Some sticky back vinyl and 40mm cut off one wiper blade sees the car fly through the MOT with not even any advisories...

I do feel a bit of a bell end with the label on the window like this, but it did its job....

Just had it's last wash and brush up for 2013, label to be removed very. very soon...

My MOT tester would quite rightly tell me to f*ck off if I turned up with that.

If it were RHD you wouldn't have got away so easy I'd say.

Because you have a broken windscreen and a chopped wiper blade.

Not that's visible, and because it's an aero blade, you can't even tell it's been chopped...

I was lucky it broke right down the passenger side - as has been said, if it were RHD it would not have been possible...

Just to confirm, I'm not planning on keeping it like this, but means I have a year to get the screen done properly, at my leisure...

MOT passed again. This time with a lovely brand new heated screen.

Unfortunately. Screen is now cracked after driving from screen fitter, to MOT station, to home. 300 miles...

Over 600 quid and logistical nightmare to be back at square one.

                  I hate this car.

Nightmare, any idea what has caused the screen to crack?

My suspicions are that it may be something to do with one of the pop rivets - either that or something with the heating element connection wiring (i think this is unlikely though)

The kind of 5 fingered crack has started under the side trim...

Couldn't face investigating when I found it today, was too angry...

Gutted for you mate, that's terrible, any chance of a warranty claim? Or windscreen insurance?

Not really - insurance yes. But only to replace with a normal screen, not heated. Warranty, again not really as I supplied the screen...

I've emailed the company that fitted it anyway, just to hear their thoughts...

Well, surprise surprise.... having looked at pictures of the break, Old School Windscreens in Chertsey, Surrey have told me that, in their opinion the screen has been broken by impact and not by poor fitting.

I wonder if they mean impact of air and gravity because nothing has struck the screen...

This means that I am back to the old problem of who to fit my replacement? Not really in a position to try and do it myself.

Other coupe owners having fitted screens, especially the heated ones, who fitted them for you?
