Should the rear washer jet rotate with the wiper or stay still? Does the jet just pull out like the B5 Avants or do I have to go inside the tail gate and remove the motor?

Avant rear washer jet?

It *SHOULD* stay stationary. On my 98 C4 Avant, I somehow managed to install a new one such that it moved with the rear wiper arm. I thought that that was a better idea - until the resulting leaking of wiper fluid corroded the wiper gear box, causing it to cease.

So how does the jet come out, I gave it a tug but no joy, don't want to break something. It works but not very much pressure so I'm thinking either partially blocked or leaking inside. And it's rotating with the wiper

I tried it tonight and the water jet just sprays straight up. I couldn't squirt it and look at the cap though
I suppose the jet in the middle could stay still, but the cap turns? It looks like it has a cut out so that might make sense?Current-2004 Impreza PPP wagon

Yeah, the cap is fixed to the wiper arm, so it goeas round.
I thought the jet was supposed to stay still. It must be seized to the wiper shaft. I'll have to take it to bits and free it off.Comment

The plastic nozzle does NOT move when it is installed and operated properly. Otherwise, as I said above, it will leak fluid into your wiper gearbox/motor and kill it. Ask me how I know this.

All sorted now.
The nozzle mounts from the outside into a long plastic tube that goes up from the inside.
Flip the wiper shaft cover to reveal the washer nozzle and wiper blade nut. Pull the washer nozzle out with a pair of pliers, mine was really stuck solid in there due to rust build-up on the inside of the motor shaft..
Open the tailgate, take out the 2 screws holding the inside grab handle and pull down the interior panel from it's clips.
Prise the wee pipe carefully from the back of the motor, it's about 4" long but on mine there was enough slack in the water pipe to allow it to pull out.
Now, working from outside the car, use a 3 or 4mm drill as a file to clean out the rust from the inside of the wiper shaft, spray some WD40 down it to wash out the dust. I then fed some copper grease in to try and hold back the corrosion.
Fit the plastic tube back in from inside, click the nozzle back in and test. make sure the nozzle stays still and fires straight up the screen when the wiper is moving.
Refit the interior panel and handle, sorted.
I took the opportunity of removing the wiper blade and dripping some oil down the shaft followed by some copper grease.Last edited by newsh; 12 January 2014, 21:27.Comment
