    Fresh paint yaaaaay!!

So, after being at the back of a 4 car shunt in February I finally got my Coupe fixed. The bonnet was bent and the slam panel ended up about 3mm from the radiator. The insurance company wrote it off as a CAT-C citing it would cost more to fix than it was worth. They offered me several hundred quid more than I originally paid for it and then let me buy it back for £86.....bargain!! It flew through it's VIC test and finally went in this week for the work to be done.

    Before:

    Now:

So, I paid less than £500 to get the bonnet straightened and painted, the slam panel fitted and painted. How then could the first lot reckon nearly £1300??

The best bit was the freshly painted bonnet made the wings look rubbish so the bodyshop painted them for me free of charge

My dilemma now is whether to get the roof done too as it has some lacquer peel......they quoted me a great price but at what point do you stop spending past the value of the car???? I have no intention of selling it anytime soon so I guess that's justification enough, what do you reckon? If I get that done then what next.....doors? bumpers? Before I know it I'll have spent a couple of grand in bits without realising!!

Not many about in this great colour. Considering you got a good deal for you insurance and your body shop really went out of their way to please you plus the great price they have quoted for the roof i think it's a no brainer!!! Get the roof done, detail the rest of the car and enjoy!

The paint looks great, as predicted a bird managed to empty it's stomach contents onto it within hours & has slightly marked it but I'm well chuffed overall.
Not only did they write it off, I also had a hire car for 7 weeks whilst they came to this decision....by my reckoning the difference between the pay out & the original estimate to fix it was 30 quid!!!! Add the cost of the hire cars its no wonder insurance is so expensive these days!

You went to the hassle of saving it. Go on get the roof done.
I cant believe it was written off for that? Insurance companies are so short sighted. 7 weeks of hire car.??

Yep, 7 weeks in a Peugeot 508, in the end I was almost sad to hand it back
The Coupe is booked in for an MOT next week so will see what joys that brings but must admit I'm tempted to save up for the roof now!

£350, including front & back pillars, seemed fair to me unless thats a lot for what it is?

                      Definitely not a lot!

The quote is a very good one especially as you have laquer lift and there will need to be a fair bit of work to get over that defect. It's a no brainer!! Do it,you won't regret it!!
