Ok, I'll do a bit of reading, and get a quotre from the garage, I don't think she'll have a problem paying to have it done, as long as it fixes the problem though

my ex used to own a 56 plate octavia vrs tdi with the pumpe duse engine. i bought it on her behalf after the owner insisted on picking me up from the train station. the car was spotless and drove like a dream all the way home from oxford. the next morning she fired it up in the driveway and there was the suffocating white smoke coming from the tailpipe right up until the car warmed up!!

long story short - we ended up taking it to a diesel specialist whose only conclusion was that it suffered a porous cylinder head which apparently was common with the PD engine.

the seller never answered his phone again. . .

Nightmare, as I say this one was clocked but we didn't find out till a mate who used to work at Audi checked it out for us.

We had one at work, smoking and using coolant, 2.0tdi, I turned out to be the egr cooler

If it smells of bbq it will be seals. Egr cooler is common but it will smell different.
the porous head only affected the bkd with the head casting ending in the letter A.
Octavia vrs 170 sufferedinjector failure that's why they were all recalled

So, BBQ smells like paraffin, what does the EGR cooler smell like? (I'm not very good witrh smells )

A sweet smell. It would have to using a fair bit of water to care create steam though.

her vrs didn't use any water but the smoke was white and really toxic - it didn't smell like any exhaust i'd ever smelled before . .

Injector seals have been done and it still smokes

We're the injectors tested? Al so you can look on vcds to chevk the injection quantities

Just went with her to pick up the car. It's blue smoke now! And loads of it!

Did they change oil. Seals will contaminate oil. Where are you based?

Also have they checked the torsion value. Eg timing
