    Engine stand

I am after a new engine stand and need to know how heavy a fully built up AAN is?

I have had a look and seen this one. What do you think?

The AAN is around 350 lbs (IIRC). In any case, way less than the max capacity of that stand (1500 lbs).

Be aware that you will probably have to remove the flywheel to mount the engine to the stand. At least that was my experience with my spare AAN and rolling stand.

Fully dressed 20vt is about 180Kg IIRC. I have a 4 wheel stand. Its very stable but getting a complete engine on and off the stand is hard as the crane can't get close enough due to the 4 wheeled base. The 3 wheeled ones are certainly capable of taking the weight of a fully dressed 20vt but they are a bit unstable due to the 3 wheeled design so you need to be careful turning the engine over etc. They are much easier to get the engine on and off though. Hi Dave are you saying that stand i have linked would necessitate the flywheel to be removed? Would the crankshaft rotating balance be upset unless i put the flywheel back in exactly the same position if i mark it? I guess everybody on here who has used a engine stand working on a 3B,ABY,ADU,AAN has the same dilema?

The one in your ebay link looks no good to me, unless it not visible in the pics, there is not enough adjustment in the mounting bars.

          I have this stand.

No need to remove the flywheel. Clutch will need to come off.
Flywheel only goes one way anyway (remember the timing pin).

Thanks for that info Alex, very important advice to know in my opinion so thanks! I will just look for a good 3 legged one and then fashion a piece on the front leg like a wide removable T piece to keep it stable and then remove for instalation.Cheers

I looked at you link Alex and good it is. After reading your above post ref ease of use getting engine on and off is there a version exactly the same as yours but just 3 legged?

The flywheel bolt spacing is asymetrical such that it is impossible to reinstall the flywheel in the incorrect position. But if you are not confident about this, a Sharpie will be your friend.

BTW, the flywheel bolts are nominally single use only.

Is this the 3 leg version of the Clarke one? Collection only, Guildford post code so should go cheap

                    Edit: forgot the link http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CLARKE-ENG...item19f44bd707

And in case the name "Sharpie" doesn't translate across the pond, this should help:

                        Don't have a 3 wheel one.
                        Too unstable.
I've a 4 wheeler rated at 400kg I think, it's ok apart from as above re the crane in the right place
I find it easier to attach the frame to the engine, then to the stand rather than trying get it on the stand after-but each to their own i suppose.
Oh, and get yourself some good quality nuts n bolts that will attach to the engine and stand.
