    Sunset coupe

Had a bizarre day. To cut a long story short, I have had some strange symptoms for the last 16months and despite a multitude of tests, the docs say I am fit and healthy but they believe I have mild CFS/ME. Hmm, this is after months of looking after mum before losing her in December last year. Maybe these symptoms are the result of this?

Anyhow, cut a long story short, a friend of a friend said I should see this local Osteopath guy who worked wonders for her (she also had CFS) So, just the one session later, I feel quite odd and looking forward to the next bout. His instructions (after bending me and pushing me into a variety of squashy shapes) were to go look at nice peaceful things, so I took the S2 out for a blat before buying a nice bottle of wine.

Alas, I only had crappy camera phone which was a shame when i saw this sunset.

Cheers, I currently feel like someone has put an oversize helium balloon under my **** and I've not even opened the Reserva yet. I feel so light it is untrue.

Having suffered from and worked with people suffering from CFS/ME, stress combined with a bad virus are the most common combination of causes.

A positive attitude and sensible approach to life are very beneficial as they help reduce stress and manage the exhaustion. Tip of the iceberg and all that...

So much conflicting advice, snake oil and witchcraft out there, so stick to the basics. If there's a CFS/ME service near you then push to get referred.

yeah I have been pacing for months now. Tried various diets, I have an incredibly flexible, unstressful job, no money worries, no kids, no harsh relationships etc. I don't exactly have any stress in my life per se, apart from the obvious past 2yrs with my mum (who I was very close to) Bizarrely, I have not had any viruses or illness or in a long time. I did however have appendicitis in early 2012 and the Op to remove it went slightly wrong. They managed to puncture my bladder during the procedure, so then had to have major surgery to put it right. I guess the last couple of years have been a bit ***** but it is never as bad as some people have it. Overall I feel lucky really.

I do feel it is improving slowly and definitely is not getting worse. I am just used to working in the mornings and playing golf in the afternoons and for the last year or so, it has been like 2 weeks of being 80% (basically able to do stuff) and then a fortnight of being knackered, needing loads of sleep, basic tasks tiring me out etc. You know the score if you have been there but like you say, there is much conflicting info. Very frustrating when I am used to being very active. Positive mental attitude is obviously a good help but I find that easier said than done.

Are things ok for you now? Hope so, it is an annoying unquantifiable situation to be in.

I have a friend who had this same problem for a good few years, interestingly she had also not had any colds or flu for years but remembered she did have a bad dose before the ME/Cfids came on. I think it's possible (and I'm not a doctor!) that the virus or whatever lives on in the body (I've heard this can be in the sinuses and cause headaches) and causes the lack of energy and for some reason the immune system doesn't throw it out. The doctors could do nothing for her. First thing we did was to get some stuff to combat candida which helped a bit but she was still low on energy and found it hard not to crave sweet things. We then got her to talk to a herbalist who was recommended to me by a mate in Brum, he made her some herbal remedies which she took over the course of a few months. At around this time she got a really stinking cold/flu and seemed to get worse if anything, the herbalist said this was a really good sign. We also got her into using a little electrical box that a mate of mine makes which passes a small square wave current through the body (it's only a few volts and I can hardly feel it, I've been using one for my arthritis to good effect) theory is that the current kills the tiny micro organisms of the virus. Good news is that since trying this alternative stuff she has been getting better and wrote to me recently that she's only had a couple of bad days in the last year.
Incidentally you can do a candida treatment with borax very cheaply. (and I'm not a doctor! (again) but I've done this also and take borax for the arthritis)

A chap on one of the bike forums posted this, he'd been having so much trouble with stiffness and pain in the joints he had pretty much stopped riding, after a month of borax he was back on the bike. I've been doing this (on and off, I'm not very good at regimes!) for 2 months and I've noticed an improvement.

Fair, that sounds good news for your friend and your arthritis. I think the way forward with these random things is firstly to accept it and not get too down about it. Have some faith in the human body and time and not be afraid to try a variety of things that might or might not help.

The diagnosis of CFS is so vague that I don't believe any one idea can help generally without knowing what caused the thing in the first place. Trial and error and lots of patience is required, something I am often short of ha ha.

I already have a horrific sweet tooth. when you cannot be bothered to do anything, eating is often the only comfort you have. That equals dangerous territory ha ha.

I've just edited my post above and added a link, the sweet tooth can be down to candida infestation which can cause ME, have a read and of course do your own research, I'm sure you'll find a solution, you have the right attitude.

                      BTW, lovely coupe and sunset

Cheers John, I am going to have a rear about this candida. Never heard of it before you mentioned it.

I'm more cynical than most when it comes to legal medication and noticeable effects , but following an increase to almost daily migraines over the last year I started using Co-enzyme Q10 ( the 300mg gel capsules, not the weaker hard tablets). Off-script, available on line or ebay...it worked for me, even though I doubted it would . Supposed to be effective for CFS too...yeah I know, not medically proven/snake oil blah blah , and placebo effect is always a factor , but just a suggestion....not cheap mind....good luck in any case, all things must pass .
