Gatebil is indeed in Norway, I get the Scandinavian country's muddled sometimes.
How bad are those sodding insects over there in the summer? I hear it can be worse than Scotland and that can get intolerable. Is there any interesting old disused military stuff in the far North or is that all on the Russia side of the border?
yeah the mozzies can be **edit** **** mate. you can always hope you taste disgusting though, like me. For some reason they don't bite me. something to do with dirty foreign blood I think
I'll try to find out about abandoned military stuff. Probably loads of you cross over into Russia. The problem is you might not come back
I wish mate
I have a funny feeling that all efforts towards buying a snowmobile will be out of the window when I present this car
and my mate definitely won't let me do that on his ridiculously expensive snowmobile. To be fair I messed myself up quite badly 2 winters ago just learning to snowboard so the chances are i'd really do some damage on one of those trying for 20' air
I might nip over to join you for Gatebil then Although I think it's in Norway is it not? I'm quite near the Russian border so it's a logical stop overnight on your way south at least. Depending on the time of year there's quite a lot to do. jet skiing on the lakes.. bear watching.. wondering why the f*ck it hasn't been dark for days....

She's certainly no bag of crap, Phil got a real bargain when he picked it up, it's very like my Corrado in that it's only had a couple of owners who have looked after it well and it's never been mucked about with. Things like all the jacking points are straight and an undamaged under tray indicate a car that's been serviced with care as does a 25 year old fully functional air-conditioning system.
Me and my mate with the RS2 are seriously considering a Scandinavian road trip next year taking in a Gatebil event in Sweden then doing a clock wise lap of the Baltic back around to France and home. If we manage to organise it I'll try and pass through your area of Finland, we want to go right up to the North near the Russian border so I figure we'd be fairly close at some point.
And yep those sporty snowmobiles look to be a lot fun, must take some holding on to!
That actually gives me great relief to know that it's not a bag of cr*p. Buying an unseen car online rarely turns out too well. thank god for friendly forum members eh?
You should pop over here at some point and drive it during a proper winter. I'm sure I can sort out some additional winter fun too. For starters my mate's snowmobile has a tendency to leave my flabbier bits a few metres behind when it takes off. It's like nothing I've ever experienced before. If a car took off like that I'd need a waterproof seat cover.
It no great bother mate, it nice to work on a car that's been looked after and it's not like I'm doing it for free. In 18 months time I'll be looking to go back to doing more mechanical work with a view to doing more interesting specialised jobs like this one, plus I've had a chance to have a good test drive and confirm I want my own one for a winter car.
If you want to speak obscurely so that nobody understands you then I recommend Finnish. Even when I speak it in Finland nobody understand me! Thus proving it's a crazy language
Sandy - you're right. This one is too respectable for me. the 4 wheels all point roughly the same direction and it has one of those metal things under the bonnet that goes "vroom", rather than the elastic band you mentioned. It's obviously all been a big mistake. I'll not know what to do with it when I eventually take possession of it. Although my missus may have a suggestion regarding where I should stick it
The roses are a good suggestion. I secretly think she'll be OK when she drives it though. It'll be like the S2. She hated it for a year while I rebuilt it but when she got to drive it she changed her mind. Scared the sh*t out of me to be honest.
And aye, poor Kit. I'll need to figure out some way to truly repay him one day.
I think we should deffinitely all learn the lingo, so the Wives don't know whit we're oan aboot, Ah mean ther's nae need fur theym tae ken exactly whits gaun oan wi caur's is ther?
Ochone ochone even thon spurtles no a guid shape fur the stirrin but maseel wull hae a wee try enaweys ! -- BUT yon motors still got the pent oan it ---its no lik ye Noel ---a wee bitty too respectable fur yerseel tae be seen in, an it appears tae still hae an enchine an naw a bluidy big rubber baund as Ah wis expectin --- -- Is it reely ment tae be a wee present fur the bidey in or as we used tae speir 'the seat cover' an yer nae wantin tae let bug aboot it in case the boys oan the Forum git wild an jellus ?

Aye an puir Kit whit herm his he iver dun tae ye --- ?
yeah he's really doing me a solid Andy. I was just chatting with Kit a few days ago about how forums, and this one in particular, have resulted in me meeting some amazing people. All based on a mutual obsession of old Audis.
When I bought my smashed S2 and started to reshell it many years ago I had no idea what I was doing but I ended up with a handful of S2forum guys down at my lockup regularly to lend a hand.
I bet you don't get that on a beard-fanciers forum, or whatever other non car related forums that might exist.
people of s2forum.. I salute you
hang on. nope. wrong smiley.
nearly there...
ah yes. that's the one.
You're a gentleman for taking care of it for me mate until it starts its journey north. I would kiss you but I fear my wife would object to that more than the extra car
If the exhaust can be patched to get it as far as Germany then I will arrange for it to receive something special there. would a bandage do it or a few blobs of repair putty?
that's quite a collection there. I think the thing on the left is a key of sorts for the centre cap of the alloys. maybe..
then a free emery board for my missus' nails... then a spatula for.. erm...yeah...
and then more crap and a metal ring that's probably supposed to be on the back of one of the centre caps to hold it on maybe?
