I will try that but I can see where most of the moisture is coming in. There is some type of seal within the drivers door that is leaking. It is not the seal around the side, as I can see this is fine and is never wet but the sill always has a little puddle on it after heavy rain. I think water is coming in via the window seal and then dripping down from inside the actual door, as the bottom of the door is wet.

I read about it on the Cupra website. It is just too cold for me to be bothered sorting it out at the moment (and I am a little lazy)

Take off door card you'll see the galvanised steel window regulator frame. The foam seAl between it and the doOrd perish. Again instart black gasket maker does the job perfectly

Ha no worries Andrew. Me and nick took the dash out of his Leon and the door cards and literally covered everything in sealant to sort his leaks! And it still bloomin leaked but less than before... Good luck curing yours

Well my brother brought the car. It was quite tidy and so it should be for the money. (Think it's a b6?) Needs brakes doing so not a problem and has a few small broken bits which also aren't a problem to fix. Had some old codes that hadn't been cleared so cleared them off too.
Drove home real nice and smooth which is good. Once home we washed it and unfortunately it's got a damp drivers footwell from it!!!! (despite the fact we checked for wet and couldn't feel or see any marks... This explains why the dealer had it in a lock up!!!)

So... Due to the damp footwell does anyone have any pointers or common issues to search? I've said the obligatory drain channels in front wings, bonnet grommet ripped, pollen filter leaking? Poor fitted windscreen or drivers door seal... Anywhere else to check? (No sunroof model)
Anyone advise on how to remove the outside plastics at the bottom of the windscreen so this area can be checked? (I know nick and he can be a bit bull in china shop when annoyed so want to avoid breaking plastics)

            Cheers in advance guys.

On the B5 you pull the rubber off the top of the plenum egde then pull the plastic plenum cover towards you. Then you undo those cross point screw things which always go round unless you use the right size screwdriver! Theres a screw down through the passenger side near the pollen filter IIRC. Then be careful theres a clip in the middle which holds the 2 left and right side pieces together, go gently, and of course the wiper arms, hopefully the B6 should be similar Pull the battery to fully clean underneath it. There's a drain in the centre through into the engine compartment (rubber grommet with elephant trunk?) which may well be blocked.

Leaves/debris under the battery usual cause for wet carpet. There is a little rubber gromit for the drain, you may as well remove it. As mentioned pull the battery and clean.

For brakes, B6/B7 s4 brakes are a direct bolt on ... Just saying
With the 190 1.8t you'll have 312mm brakes, so adequate... The diesel 1.9s had 288mm, and they are terrible.

I love my 1.9 diesel sport.

If it's wet on drivers side it won't be plenum chamber drains as that affects the passenger footwell. Check the ecu box seal and cover is fitted properly. As for brakes you can fit b7 2.0 tfsi calipers approx 130 pair and 320 x 30 s4 discs. Worked very well on mine.. And yes if it a 54 it's a b6

Cheers guys I will relay this to hiom later today by phone. And thanks for the info about the drain in the middle of the tray. I will let him know to clean that out too as well as checking the seal and cover for the ecu box

Right we have progress. Nick has been out with the car this morning pulling it apart adn thinks he has found the leak. It appears to be coming from teh ecu box seal. he has taken the scuttle apart and lifted the ecu out and whilst pouring water around the outside of the box he can clearly see it drain away and then intot he car he can clearly see it getting in.

                        Question time...
                        1) what is the safest procedure for the fix? Which end of the ECu loom does he disconnect - the one that goes into the bay or the one that goes into the car bulkhead?
                        2) does he need to disconnect battery etc?
                        3) Once done does it need recoding or is there a reconnecting procedure to follow?
                        4) is anyone able to help with a PN for the ecu box seal to bulkhead?

Thansk again guys. You have saved him from a fate worse than death! His wife gave him 3 strict nstructions when buying this car. 1) it has to be suitable for a family car and new baby. 2) safety and reliability is not to be an issue. 3) it was not under any circumstances allowed to leak after 7 years of Seat Leon ownership... (aka - the GOLDFISH BOWL!)

They are nice cars, and fairly rare.
Have a 60k 04 saloon in my garage, bought it in March 2004.
Looked at new S3 Sportback a year ago but still have the B6 !
They chip to 220, but I understand that's on the clutch's limit for a longer life. Mine's still stock, just never got around to it. I regularly get 30/33 mpg just running around and 34/35 on anything longer , not hanging about either!
