So I am a bit confused on this. My S4 is '92 (June) so legally it doesn't need a cat. How does MOT work, in my understanding they are still being tested for emissions (obviously), but are limits higher than let's say K reg car that requires CAT?
Can't seem to get a definite answer.

I am asking purely because I've been looking into getting new exhaust, and have no idea what to go for so I can pass MOT without sticked them back in everytime. Is there any information on levels it should meet?

I am just worried because I how only half in each cat at the moment, and exhaust is in bad stateh, so got to be ready to react if u fail mot cos of exhaust.
Newsh kindly gave me some parts so I fixed my MAF. I'll be in London over weekend I'll drop yours off
If its pre 1st August 1992 then the limits are such that you wont need a cat/cats to pass the BETS (Basic Emissions Test) anyway. It is not down to whether there is or isn't a cat present, it is whether the emissions are within the spec'd limits.
Make sure you have new air filter, oil and filter and get it hot...it should pass well within limits.
Max limit is 3.5 on Co mine recently passed with 0.9 and it is legally de catted. In other words I can legally remove the cat and its still well below the limit, in fact its below the limit for a car with a cat. If she is in good order then all should be fine.

Wow, you really have loos emission limits there. Here the Co max limit is 0.5(idle) and 0.3(@2000rpm). No chance to pass without the cat. All though with a well heated 5" 100cell cat and e85 there was no problems to pass.
