Being born and bred only a few miles from Dagenham I absolutely love this, We all had Fords like this when I was a kid I passed my test in a Mk1 Cortina, had 2 Anglia / Popular 100Es and finished with a silver Mk2 Cortina 1200 2 door with a 1500 transplanted in and loads of Burton bits.. Burton Engineering was just 50 yds from where I worked.

I have had a few fords to . A ford Anglia in which we fitted a 1600 cross flow. I then swopped the car for mates hot rod engine which was a 1500 pre cross flow.
He wanted to build a cross flow to enable him to be more competitive. This was in the days of Barry lea , and George poly racing hot rods.
The engine was a 1500 bored out to around 1755cc .
It had lotus twin cam rods and low skirt pistons. larger valves and a the quarter race cams. Cosworth oil fed rocker gear.
I ran two DCO 45 Webber carbs. I fitted this into a ford classic I had at the time. The
Anglias, big brother.
This car had Mcfearson front struts and handled quite well for an old barge. With 175 tyres on 5 and a half j wheels which where enormous in those days.
The engine then found its way Into a 1200 mark 1 Cortina estate. It ran well in this car,
better than the next, which was a 1500 super saloon We swopped The diff from the estate and it ran better. the estate had a 4.4 to one diff, and the saloon a 3.9.
Also had to mk1 escorts. fun cars.Comment

I was never a Ford man (1st job from school was a Hillman/Chrysler/Talbot Parts Dept in Cardiff, so a Hillman for me was always on the cards). Started off with a Triumph Herald
but soon bought a Hunter GLS (Holbay Head, and Weber's) which was as quick in a straight line as a Mk2 RS2000, but it wouldn't handle, or stop
- taught me how to drive, though
