    White Pearlescent?

Thinking of painting my ur in Pearl White instead of Alpine.
I remember seeing a pearl white quattro back in the day and thinking it was the best thing ever and remember that it seemed to light up a kind of pinky blue violet colour. I just seen a repainted late reg RR which was also very beautiful but didn't seem the same colour. Were there different pearl whites from year to year of is my memory wrong? I know a friend had a pearl 200 repainted and it came out creamy yellow and was horrible.
I just know if it's going to be pearl it's got to be right.
    Any advice please?

My 90q was originally pearl but it had a few repairs and the colour match was horrendous. So it's now just bright white lol
Pearlmuttwiess was the name of the colour at a guess the code was la07
The Bentley pearl white is a nice colour..

I have also seen various shades of Pearl White on UR's. The bottom line is that it is very hard to paint and there are not many that can do it properly. I once sold my car having had it done twice by a BMW specialist because they made a real mess of it.

Personally I love the colour, but it is horrendous to match it. So if you have any scrapes or minor accidents, then normally the whole side of the car has to be repainted.

From my experience I would go with Alpine white, or if you are changing the whole colour, how about Oceanic Blue?

living that myself Steve...my pearl in need of some serious love...but to address the issues is basically a full respray which is not financially practical. Such a shame as it is such a great colour when in good nick

Love the pearl white. As above Bentley and Aston offer a really nice pearl white:

Stick with alpine and have a small amount of flake / pearl added to the lacquer. This will retain the original look with a lovely sparkle in the sunlight.

But pearl is absolutely stunning... hell even i'm tempted to repaint mine Pearl White as it's so drop-dead gorgeous and its currently Ragussa

I remember seeing James' coupe when it was a tad more OEM and falling in love it it being Pearl.

Really suits the coupe too being quite an angular car.

I resprayed my S4 about 15 years ago and can speak first hand about what a pain it is to paint. The Audi perlmuttweiß is a three stage paint. There is a flat base coat, a pearl coat, and then a clear. One coat of base is all that is needed and you can spray multiple coats of pearl depending on the shade of pearl that you want. Spray one coat of pearl and you have a very white looking pearl.....like the early cars (I prefer this one). The more coats of pearl that are sprayed the more "ice cream" or yellow the final result will be.

The other difficulty in matching pearl is the overlap between passes with the gun. If it isn't done the with the same amount of overlap then it will never match. It might look right from one angle, but terrible from another. The pearl will have a malted/blotchy look to it if not done correctly.

It is a pain, but as Sonic says, it is stunning when done right. I especially like the car at night under some violet and pink neon. The way the colors play in the pearl is amazing.

I can tell you have sprayed before.Do you do it for a living? Pearl white is, as has already been said a very nice colour but a bitch to keep looking nice and ultimately too costly if repairs are needed.

I have a pearl white S2 ABY Avant which I bought from Whitby and as a result of the sea air it has some rust around rear arches and under bottom door trims. I was hoping to get just the sides done but after speaking to my paint guy, it is looking like a total respray to get it all to match. I do love the colour and it will be worth it, so it will be an engine and glass out handover to him next winter!

                              I say go for it.
