    Mercedes 190E 2.5-16 Cosworth

Have spotted one of these for sale.

Can't say I know much about Mercs so wondered if anyone on here had any experience?

I've always fancied one of these. They have a good chassis. My mate used to have a lesser 190 and loved it, it was supremely comfortable.
Dare I say it even better build quality than Audis of the same era
    Panthero Coupé quattro 20vt
    Indigo ABY coupé
    Imola B6 S4 Avant

I've always loved the 190 Evo2, seriously iconic cars. Really don't need another project car... But this looks like it's too good a deal to miss out on!

I've always liked these. My experience is do it otherwise you will kick yourself for years on missing out the opportunity. I know I am after missing out on a blinding deal for a solid 2 door tin top mk 1 golf. Small rear lights and swallow tail panel for basically towing costs. I am still gutted about that from 7 years ago. A mate brought it and still has it hence why I know it was solid.

        DO IT

My mate had one and it was a nice well built car, gears take time to get used to as 1st is where 2nd normally is, it didn't seem that quick though in all honesty.

There's summat about old mercs I love. I work for mercedes myself and drive brand new ones on a daily basis and they are rubbish , they openly tell you at training they deliberately don't make them like they used to purely because they want you to replace it every 3 years

Nice car , but the one to have is the e500, built by porsche at the same time they were building the rs2, car of choice for the f1 drivers at the time

Hmmm, was always a semi itch that I never scratched and in a way glad I did not. I went in one about 5 years ago. It was very very slow and I cannot say I was overly impressed. There is something about them looks wise though.

I have serious 944 Turbo S issues at the moment. I cannot stop looking at them. I think I need help (and a bag of money)

I've always liked these cars but in the time these were built you have the S Audis and RS2 BMW M3 Ford Cossies remember the Top Gear where they had M3 Cossie and 190 Merc now that was a good race lol! Very rare these days

Liking the way you put that.

I like them too but have missed the boat. 7 years ago yes,now they are getting expensive.

Iconic "looking car" for sure and rare but this one will pee all over it.

I was talking face to face with Philj on here last October and standing in front of these cars and received a very good lesson/education about these care. Aparantly these are superbly balanced cars easily modulated with the right foot doing silly things and in his opinion way way better than audis of the same era.

Not much to add that hasn't been said. They rust and they're not quick by modern standards. They are cool a hell though and lovely to drive (have driven a few but never owned one). When they came into my garage it was almost always for hydraulic suspension leaks.

I agree, iceberg springs to mind.

Not fast enough like a chipped S I5 engine, and not quattro.

An E30 325i with a Rotrex supercharger with an LSD and some suspension, brakes, Z3 steering rack, and some A8 Recaros, with a half cage may not be as valuable, but could be less expensive, but certainly more fun. imho. :roll eyes:

If you read all of this thread below and still want to buy one, well at least you'll know what you're up for.

Hi everybody, Thought I would post the progress of my 2.5-16 complete restoration. I acquired the car back in 1992 when the car was about 3 years old. So it holds a lot of special memories for me. I remember at the time there was nothing quite like it on the road and I recall test...

I think we are spoilt with the factory galvanisation of our body shells, and don't realise it, as any rust issues are generally to do with suspension parts. Referring to ABY and AAN cars here.

A Porsche 964 Carrera 4 is want you should be lusting after, if funds allowed.

The look very cool, too slow now though. A chipped S2 can hold its own with normal stuff, but 200bhp does not really cut it now with that weight.

944 turbo has much more potential, but heading up in price.

How about a poverty spec 944, and swap a chipped AAN into it
